My therapist was an ass today

I had a diabetic protein/granola bar for lunch, but she insisted that I eat the lunch furnished by my psychiatric care provider. It was awful for diabetics. White rice, cornbread, chicken patty, and boiled cabbage.

I went ahead and ate the chicken, cabbage, and cornbread which tasted like there was sugar in it. I refused to eat the rice which is really bad for you.

I probably am not going to eat anything else today mainly because of the cornbread. She really doesn’t comprehend what diabetics can eat.

I’m just going to go outside the next time they are eating.

That sounds really frustrating. She should have been able to understand when you explained that the meal wasn’t appropriate for diabetics.

For sure. Thanks ninjastar. The chicken and cabbage aren’t bad except for the gravy which probably was made with flour.

Last Fall the holistic doctor (MD) I was seeing was concerned my blood sugar was getting too low. He said if I lost some more weight I could come off the diabetes med. I stopped taking it a week ago, and am having to monitor my blood sugar closely and really watch what I eat. I want my A1C (three month average blood sugar) to be acceptable when I go in April 27th.

My doctor practices holistic medicine which emphasizes exercise, diet, and a normal BMI.

I had the nurse at my psychiatric care provider check my blood pressure. She got 149/79, while at home I was getting 131/67. My blood pressure meter is apparently broken, and I started taking my BP med again. I ordered a new BP meter which will be delivered tomorrow. My goal is 130/80.

I’ve got carbs at home that I eat such as barley, low calorie whole wheat bread, non-starchy vegetables, black beans. These don’t spike my blood sugar.

I just looked at my blood sugar when I went in fasting for a cholesterol panel, and it was 73. Under 70 is bad. My fasting blood sugar this morning was 99 without the med. Under 100 is normal blood sugar.

Just ignore your therapist. She’s obviously ignorant of how to eat when one has diabetes. Just say thank you but I’m going to have this instead. Don’t give in
