Talked to a nutritionist today

She was surprised that I had never talked to one before, having diabetes as long as I have.

This is the basic regimen she suggested for my diabetic diet:

  1. 45 to 60 carbs per meal
  2. 130 carbs per day
  3. 30 mins of aerobic exercise per day
  4. 15 minutes every other day of resistance exercises

She also gave me a sheet with 15 carb portions estimates to break it down and other stuff. For example : 1 piece of bread aprox. 15 carbs.

So, she gave me 2 reference papers with stuff like that on it.

That’s about what it broke down to.

That’s great! I saw a diabetes nutritionist last week.

In March I’ll take 3 diabetes nutrition classes, and then after them, I’ll see the nutritionist individually 3 more times.

Hopefully it helps.

Now that I’m on diabetes meds, my blood sugar keeps dropping. I get shaky, my heart races, and I break out in a sweat.

I think I’m on too much.

Sounds like my nutritionist. Except she gives me plate pictures with half the plate non starchy vegetables, 1/4 plate protein and the remaining 1/4 carbs like potatoes, pasta and rice. That should be every meal.

You should invest in a food weight scale on Amazon. Measuring everything exactly is really helpful. Once you get to learn serving sizes, you can just eyeball it. My surprise was the carb count in sauces and dressings. Those have a ludicrous amount of sugar. A serving of regular ketchup is literally about a tablespoon.
