I need a lot of work done including tooth extraction. I have to wait three three more weeks to see a dentist. One of my teeth is badly cracked and hurts. Might have an infection. I’m going to have a horrible smile. Recently found that people who have dry mouth have to take extra care of their teeth. I didn’t go sooner because I couldn’t afford dental work also I have dentist anxiety.
I the UK they have emergency dentists at the hospital.
Might be worth checking out where you live, as that sounds very painful!
I am so sorry you are suffering…I had two teeth pulled last year…now I go in for dentist cleanings every six months…much better.
I need to go to a dentist soon too, one of my teeth needs to be pulled, if the pain is too much, one is able to call the ‘pain’ number and schedule a dentist appointment for the same day which is good. I should have taken care of my teeth better when I was young.
The little things help, cleaning at the dentist, also do your part, brushing and flossing beneath the gumline, using mouthwash with fluoride, and eating no sugar or candy. No sugary juice, no simple carbs (bread and sugar). Drink plenty of water for the dry mouth. Nothing which is sticky or saccharine. Nothing which is acidic. Nothing with dyes in it. Stay well hydrated. Try and eat alkaline foods. Don’t brush the teeth when the mouth is acidic. Eat calcium rich foods etc.
When my tooth was cracked, my dentist said it was cracked down to the root. It took forever for the gums to heal because of how bad the extraction was but then it was worth getting it taken care of. Until my apt I washed my teeth with a mixture of mouthwash and hydrogen peroxide
Years of lithium use ruined my teeth.
I now have veneers or capped teeth.
Yeap… Meds are bad for the teeth. I didn’t have so much problems since now that I am on meds… Also, I am the same - dentist anxiety, its not easy for us. I wish you courage to go to the dentist, take care dear.
I have a broken molar again. My dentist swears I eat too much sugar, I g n’t, and doesn’t believe meds mess with my teeth. Because of this I hate going on to get fussed at. So I only go in when it gets bad.
My dentist got after me the last time I saw him. He told me that I need to brush my teeth every day. He could tell that I don’t! I don’t know how he could distinguish that. Those guys/gals are smart. Anyway, I have been trying to be better about brushing and flossing.
I took a lot of painkillers and not in so much pain. Going to try and make an emergency appointment at my local dentist.
Thank you for the tips.
Sorry. I didnt know lithium runs teeth. I’ve had cavities in the past. But I’ve never needed extensive dental work yet. Knock on wood.im thankful for that.
Brush twice a day.
Floss once every day, any time, it doesn’t matter.
Buy some moisturizing mouthwash, I use Biotene, it’s cheap, you can get it at Walmart. Use that in the morning after you wake up.
Go to the dentist however they recommend (after you go to your first appointment).
You have set one of teeth, take care of them!
All that being said I’m sorry for the pain and the wait. I had a bad cavity recently and it hurt like hell. My dentist told me it could have been prevented if I flossed regularly. I now take my teeth routine a lot more seriously.
Lithium and other meds ruined my teeth. I had to get all my uppers pulled and almost all my lowers.
It can dry your mouth and that’s bad for teeth.
Make sure your properly hydrated @anon12381882.
Yeah I’m not on it. Thank God
Was never diagnosed sza or bipolar
Is there a way to avoid that w/lithium?
Make sure you drink enough water.
Rinse with Biotene.
I had an infected tooth that literally made me a psychotic pest to everyone around me, I couldn’t even stand myself.
After I got in a fight with a rogue cop that slugged me, knocking out a 23 year old filling in my back tooth.
I avoided the dentist because we didn’t have a lot of money, and I had only been to the dentist 3 times up to that point in my life- all when I was 13 years old.
It took me 3 years to get past the anxiety of going, and by that time, the infection was so bad it had actually moved the jawbone.
Seems the quality of my mouth has a direct effect on how psychotic I get, because right after I get my mouth fixed up, the psychosis cleared too.
