My plan for my brain

After reading several studies, this of which is one: (https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/the-athletes-way/201608/3-ways-aerobic-exercise-improves-schizophrenia-symptoms) that detail the positive effects of exercise on the cognitive symptoms of schizo, which I suffer from the most, I decided 11 days ago to exercise every day. Since then I have been brisk walking each day, until my running shoes come in and then I will start running. The first day was the most difficult, it has been easier since then. Now it is just part of my morning routine. I am not someone who enjoys exercise but after reading how it really is one of the only things that actually improves cognition with this disorder I knew I had to try it. So some days I am forcing myself to do it, but am sticking with it. It takes a long time for the cognitive effects to enact, but I already am experiencing short term effects like improved mood and occasional improved energy level. In addition to exercising that way, I also signed up for BrainHQ which has online games for cognition. It’s fun so far and will hopefully also help. In addition to that as well I have recently purchased a B vitamin complex and am eating healthier. I will help my cognition improve, I am very determined about it. Any other suggestions for cognition are welcome in this thread. Thanks for reading.

Exercise has been very good for me. I’m older and that could be a reason too but I went from sleeping 10 hours a day to 8 or less simply adding exercise. I’m reading books regularly. I still have a bit of paranoia or intrusive thoughts but on the whole it’s been very beneficial.

I’ve even halved my antidepressant. Only change was exercise so I think your onto a good thing here. It does get easier and routine is great for the sz.

You came to the right conclusion. Working up a good sweat will do wonders for your body and mind. You will feel healthier and happier!

I would also like to improve my cognition. I’ve become a bit slow after 10 years on AP’s.

An update: I am running now, and wow! It feels great! I am learning how to discipline myself and find that I am often pushing myself harder than I could have ever imagined. Also, the b vitamins are so key for relaxation and focus. I am very happy with my mind right now, and know it will only get better.
