They say I am closest to reality on Risperdal. They say that I am better on Risperdal than on Abilify eventhough I had less negative symptoms on Abilify. On Abilify I had illogical thoughts, addictions, hypersexuality and impulsivity problems. For me Risperdal is best out of Abilify, Latuda, Seroquel, and Zyprexa.
They dont want me to change to any other antipsychotic, not even Vraylar.
Are you going to stay on it then?
I guess so, maybe try Vraylar for one day but I think this has risks without benefits.
Good luck!!! 1515
Thanks!! @LilyoftheValley
I’d go with what your parents say. Stick with the tried and true.
I second your parents @Aziz. Risperdal is a wonderful med. It’s the next best thing to Zyprexa. Only med better than Zyprexa is Clozaril. And who wants to be on those two drugs?
Zyprexa didnt even work for me at 15-20mg. I was half psychotic on it still hearing voices. I was talking to myself on it.
I’m sorry to hear that @Aziz. Something similar happened to me on Abilify.
Even if you can’t leave your bed all day?
Yes still better than psychosis, positive symptoms, being violent, hypersexuality, impulsivity and having addictions.
But what if you don’t have these side effects on vraylar?
I dont think Vraylar is as effective as Risperdal. Risperdal is one of the strongest dopamine blockers.
@zeno Vraylar doesnt fully block dopamine. I think its good for those with mild sz but not for my severe sz.
Why you were on all this drugs to begin whit
Yes its the problem with AP and other medications. Its hard to lower dose or go back to weaker AP as body get used to it. This is why careful AP selection and dose is very important.
It really is a tough thing. I fought for years with med choices. Trying to get better function by changing…
Sometimes it helped. Sometimes it was a failure and I wasted like 1 and a half years trying abilify. Just didn’t work for me either though I wanted it too.
Ultimately it’s sometimes worth a go and sometimes it’s not. You just don’t know and that is the hardest thing because getting back on meds after leaving them can be problematic in that you need more to make it effective…That really does bite and it happened with my antidepressant of all things.
Glad that the Risperdal is helping you @Aziz.
Risperdal really helps me also.
My doctor won’t let me try something else.
I’m on risperdal consta 50mg and 200mg of clozapine. That combo works wonders for me. Took a long time discovering what combo was good for me.
