Should I try Vraylar?

It was recently approved for sz here last month. It has the same mechanism of action as Abilify, partial dopamine agonist, so not as effective as full dopamine antagonists like my risperidone. Honestly I wasn’t so stable on Abilify and I had inappropriate thoughts, emotions and behaviors as my parents said I was half crazy on Abilify while off meds I was completely crazy. My parents and Dr think I am the best I have ever been now on 5mg risperidone since I got sz in 2010.

The only downside to risperidone is that I have bad negative symptoms staying in bed all day everyday. On Abilify I was much more active going to the gym and hanging out with friends everyday etc I even sometimes had short term jobs. But I didn’t feel good, normal and stable mentally.

I gained 110lb since switching from 20mg Abilify to 5mg Risperidone.

I read a bit about it. The main difference from other AP’s is that it is antagonist and agonist in a way that if dopamine is high it antagonizes, if it is low it agonizes. it is a regulator. That is new to me. I can’t advise you on anything thou. You should talk to your pdoc.

I don’t have a pdoc since Jan 2021 but I can ask my family Dr to refer me to one, it will take time. I have an apt with my family Dr 6 June.

I don’t see any hurt in trying. You are discontented with your situation and have been a long time. If Vraylar can help you with motivation and feeling better you won’t regret it. Worst case scenario, you don’t like it and can go back to risperidone.

There’s the statistics and there’s you.

It’s impossible to know how you’re going to respond to Vraylar.

If you are happy to settle for your current state you could always stick to risperdal. If you aren’t I would try Vraylar.

As you know i started Vraylar two months ago. The effect was good in the beginning but somehow decreased. I still got more energy, but my mood deteriorates.

As i know your symptoms, i think you should try it, i find it quite mild, not a strong medicine. You have got nothing to loose if your current situation is staying in bed all day.

You can certainly try it @Aziz but be forewarned I found it to be an extremely activating med.
5x more activating than Abilify.

Yes, yes, yes.

Right now you’re in bad shape, @Aziz.

You say the only things in life that make you happy are vaping and eating.

Your weight is a problem.

You’re in bed all day long.

I feel like you really need a change of medication,

Things really couldn’t be too much worse.

Yes! Man, upping my Vraylar from 3 mg to 4.5 mg helped me get a job, I believe. I take it in conjunction with my main AP, Latuda. The combo works real well for me.

Yeah, try it. You’ve mentioned your negs more times that I can count. You’re famous on the forum for it ,lol

Just because it is a similar type medication to abilify doesn’t mean it will have the same effect. You’ll never know unless you try it. Give it a shot, it if works, great, if not you can go back to risperidone.
