My new job so far

Well I’m almost through the first week of training at my new job. My office campus is amazing and so many perks to being there. We even get 50% off anything at Starbucks on site. They have 2 food trucks that come in every day so there’s always different food options and there’s a pizza restaurant that’s in one of the buildings. Theres free soda machines on each floor, a sparkling and flavored water machine. So I can get my Coke Zero for free yay. Just some fun perks to make corporate office work more enjoyable. There’s a balcony off of one of the break rooms on the 15th floor that overlooks the lake. I’d post a picture of the view but you can clearly see what location I’m in so for safety I’m not gonna post it here.

The training has been a lot of information this week. Lots of compliance and security courses we are completing. I finished all my courses on Wednesday morning so I’ve been doing elective courses to pass the time while the rest of the class finishes their compliance courses.

It is an insurance claims job so I gotta get licensed in 12 states. We take our insurance licensing exam on the 13th of this month. It’s 125 questions and we get 2 hours. We will have 3 attempts to pass within the next 90 days.

We will work at home tomorrow and all next week so we can study for the exam. It’s weird, our manager told us to not take notes while we go through the material. He said people who take notes had a higher failing rate than the people who just went through the course without taking notes.

I got my schedule for once training is done. I got my 4x10s schedule like I wanted. 7-5:30 with split days off which is great. I have some weekdays off so I can make it to appointments.

I am pursuing additional breaks as an accommodation through their external HR partner. It’s been a complicated process, they’re psychically mailing me the paperwork that my doctor has to fill out but once I get the papers I only have 10 days to mail them back. It’s so odd that they can’t fax or email them. Pretty inconvenient honestly, I see my doctor next Thursday and really need to be able to get the paperwork to her. I’m worried I won’t have the papers in time, but we will see. I have 11 more weeks to figure it out till I’m out of training and actually needing the additional breaks.

Well this is a long post, I doubt anyone will read all of this. But I was excited and wanted to share my experience so far

You had me at free Coke Zero, where do I sign up?

I’m glad you’re excited about this! It sounds like a great opportunity!

If you can afford it, I’d mail the paperwork back to HR by express mail.

My two desktop monitors came yesterday so I was able to set them up on company time(we aren’t allowed to set them up off the clock) yesterday was great working from home we went over expectations for next week and got to talk look at the course materials for studying the insurance licensing exam. I’m so glad I’m off today and tomorrow to recoup before starting again 7:30am on Monday. I’m so proud of myself for making it through the first 40 hours of training without missing any.
