My ex's dog bit me accidentally

We were playing three-way tug-o-war with one of the pit bulls and she went to reposition her mouth and came down hard on my hand. Oh lord does she have sharp teeth being so young. Anyway, she took a chunk out of my pinky finger. The wound goes from the top of the finger to the knuckle and it’s crazy how much I bend my pinky. It took forever to scab over. This happened 2 days ago and it’s still throbbing and hurting bad. Man, I couldn’t imagine being attacked by a dog, that would be awful.

There was a woman recently in the news who was killed by three dogs. They put the dogs down

Pitbulls be dangerous. Read the stats on them.
I know they can look cute but I wouldn’t want one in my life.

Trigger Warning

Recently in the news there was a story of a baby and toddler being killed by a pit bull
He was their family pet.

The dog accidently bit her.

Lets not turn this into a “pit bulls are bad pets” thread.

They aren’t.

They are just very strong dogs that are very sensitive.

My late Rigby was the sweetest most affectionate dog in the world.

They’re all sweet if raised properly.

There are dogs with bad temperaments, but that’s across all breeds.

Did you get your shots updated @Leaf? Bites can get infected pretty easily, so at work our policy was to get an updated tdap and be monitored in case we needed antibiotics.

Yeah I’m not familiar with pit bulls but my cousin who works with dogs in a shelter tells me that the pit bulls are the sweetest of all the dogs in her shelter.

Unfortunately – like Harleys – most of the people who are attracted to owning them are.

I recommend a tetnus jab.

The pup bit me, not the pit bull. My granddogs are pit bulls. They are the sweetest, most loving, loyal, caring dogs I’ve ever met. I play with them all the time and have never had one problem with them. I feel completely safe with them. The other dog is about a year now and she’s a mix, pit/wiener dog. She just made a mistake.

But that being said @Ninjastar You’re right, I should talk to my doc on Thursday about tdap.

Do you know the signs of infection in bites? bright red, still swollen days later (or an increasing size of swollen/red), hot to the touch, painful, possibly oozing or showing boils.

I didn’t know. Thank you. It looks ok. I will keep an eye on it for sure.

But statistically speaking, the dogs that do the most harm are pit bulls, even if your pit bull wasn’t violent.

If you do notice redness/swelling, draw a line around the edge of it. If it goes outside that line within a day, call a doctor. If it goes outside that line within 30 minutes, get yourself to the ER. But that sounds unlikely based on what you said.

I’ve had MRSA a couple times, so I had to familiarize myself with the alarm bells.

Sorry to hear you got bitten. Probably best to have a doctor look at it, just in case.

When Hubby moved into my apartment, 8 years ago, I was trying to help his 2 cats adjust. I gave them treats, but one of them (Fable), chomped down on my finger! My finger got super swollen. I went to the doctor and I think they gave me antibiotics.

Fable has never chomped me since then. IDK why or how that happened, back then.

I hope your pinky heals quickly.

That really seems like a separate topic. The topic here is a finger injury from an accidental bite by a teething puppy. A thing that puppies are known for and that is part of the risk with training puppies.

It is a different topic, but if it strays, one of us will step in.

I know it’s off topic, I couldn’t help but defend the pit bulls that I know and dearly love.
