it changed from schioaffective bipolar type with good prognostic features to
—>bipolar 1 disorder, severe, current or most recent episode depression, with phychotic features, with mixed features
dont know if it changeing is a good thing or a bad thing.
and if im bipolar 1 is the anti-psychotic really necessary??
it would be great if i could stop my 5mgs abilify as it numbs my mind too much.
My current diagnosis is bipolar 1 with psychotic features.
If you experience psychosis of any kind then taking an AP becomes necessary, even with a bipolar diagnosis.
My diagnosis has changed lots, it seems to depend more on the opinion of the psychiatrist than my symptoms. It seems to me the whole Bipolar, Schizoaffective and Schizophrenia are all just a spectrum.
Maybe like we now know that stroke, coronary artery disease, renal artery hypertension, peripheral vascular disease and a few others are actually all the same underlying disease (atherosclerosis). Maybe if we ever get an understanding of the underlying pathology behind these mental illnesses we may find that they are actually the same disease with different presentations.
I’ve decided to not put much stock in these ‘diagnoses’. They are just labels based on common clusters of symptoms.
Did the pdoc who changed your diagnosis say anything about changing your meds or stopping your abilify? Did they tell you the reason behind changing the diagnosis?
