My psychiatrist from the community mental health team has changed my dx to bipolar from schizoaffective … … It’s been a long road to get this dx to finally feel I can relate … She was going to take me off Abilify but I said that hasn’t worked before. So I’m carrying on with it.
Nice. My pdoc confirmed I’m sza bipolar type. He insisted on it. When I raised the idea I thought I was bipolar. Yesterday.
My pdoc feels younger pdocs are Keen to use schizoaffective a lot these days which confuses patients not suggesting you are not schizoaffective just that she thinks it’s over diagnosed
I edited the last post.
My pdoc is almost 70 though and critically acclaimed doctor.
Fair enough @Jonnybegood dxes can change over time and I may end up with sza again who khows.
U may be pyschotic bipolar…!!! Is it @anon80629714…???
I am glad you are at home with your new diagnosis. That definitely helps in acceptance and recovery.
You’re still gonna post on here though right? Would be sad to see you go.
I think the clincher was I said “when I was off meds I was psychotic 24/7 and not just during mood episodes”. He said I have very little negative symptoms. Which was why I thought I was bipolar. Along with my early onset of symptoms. 14 years old I had symptoms. But he insisted on sza. He said “you’re sza bipolar type. That diagnosis is very creative”. I associated bipolar with creativity more. But he said sza bipolar type is creative too.
Yes @anon35166066 not leaving anytime soon
Knowledge is always a good thing
My thing is a little different in that my mood changes usually aren’t super dramatic unless it’s because of a some medication. I doubted I was bipolar at all. But some research told me that the mood changes aren’t always dramatic.
Im glad you are not diagnosed as Sz anymore thats good.
Do you get side effects from abilify?
I have used abilify too.
I am not glad it’s not schizoaffective I’m more glad I can finally relate.
ok. Relate to what?
I haven’t had psychosis in 8 years only one kinda hard to accept a schizophrenia dx when I didn’t feel I had the symptoms
Congrats on getting some more clarity @anon80629714.
The treatment plan is the same.
I am pleased you got your diagnosis, I think people think that bipolar sounds not as bad a sz, people with bipolar don’t often get much help or benefits in the UK.
Yes, @Jonnybegood, I’m sza, bipolar type, and I’ve composed over 500 contemporary classical music compositions in my lifetime. I could say that I am creative.
