My dad is useless with technology

I get frustrated with him because he has no common sense with computers or phones. For example he got out of a tab in his browser and I said ‘click on the tab you are trying to go to’ so he clicks on the X and negates what he was doing. I did IT in school but still… it’s common sense and he won’t play around with things, he just gives up before he even starts. It can be very frustrating but I’ll give the old man a break I guess.

Some older people can’t be bothered learning, nor do they want to. I’m older and love it , finally convinced a older neighbor friend to get skype. he’s the impatient type worried about hacks and viruses. So we skyped for the first time I just moved my lips, did not talk, he was Oh here we go, I knew this would happen, knew it would not work, Then I started laughing so hard, when he heard that he said i was a … lol

Thats the tech story of the day well played…

My mom is the one who is not tech savvy. She says she like to learn by doing it herself, but then when you try to explain how - she gets upset. Then she will just go about doing stuff and really mess up her computer deleting crap she shouldn’t because she doesn’t know what it is for or what it does. So she asks for help again. the circle continues…

For my dad it’s the opposite. He won’t do anything without help. If one little thing goes wrong he throws his hands up in the air and gives up. It can be very frustrating. It’s the generation gap I think.

My parents cant turn on a computer!! I had to write them out step by step directions to switch inputs on their tv to watch a dvd…step 1-put in dvd…step 2-pick up remote control…step 3-call your son because you likely picked up the wrong remote.

Imagine a skill testing game that would award you with money if you properly followed instructions in controlling your computer, and one of the instructions was to click on a browser tab.

Next, many people would proceed to try the game, but no one was able to actually win the game.

But then your dad tries the game, and he wins the game, and thus he picks up the big cash bonus.

Dad picked up the cash bonus because he knew that the “x” mark was part of the tab itself, but everyone one else had completely avoided it.
