My cholesterol was high again

It was 183. I should have never started eating meat again.

Metamucil Fiber lowered my blood pressure because it lowers cholesterol. Just don’t take it at the same time as your meds. I have been taking it for a month at least 2 hourse before or after meds. No issues.

I take Crestor 10mg too, fiber reduced it further.

Also avoid eggs, bacon, butter, fried food and saturated fats. I eat lean meats. Avoid too much healthy fat too because fat is used by the body to make cholesterol. Eat fiber rich food.

You’ll gain weight then if you eat a lot.
Also not eating healthy increases stroke, blood pressure and heart attack risk even if your cholesterol is normal. Also pills can have side effects at high doses.

Atherosclerosis:

  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Diabetes
  • Obesity
  • Smoking and other tobacco use

  • Lack of exercise
  • An unhealthy diet"

would fish or shrimp be a leaner meat option?

Salmon is a healthy fish option. As long as the shrimp ain’t fried it’s probably healthyish.

Check your diet is there anything contributing to high cholesterol. Some medications can raise it also other things include unfiltered coffee, nicotine, fried foods, red meat etc.

My cholesterol is high too. I think its because of the medication I am on, invega sustenna. They are checking my blood again in 3 months and I have been doing nothing to change diet or exercise. :pensive:

I eat a bowl of old fashioned oats every morning and since I started that, my cholesterol went down.

Yea, they’re the highest food in fiber.

@Leaf @LilyoftheValley

You can also incorporate more protein in your diet like beans and lean meats. I take a protein bar that’s high in fiber for breakfast, protein and fiber makes you feel full.

I take statins. Mine was too high to fix with diet or exercise according to the nurse.

Not too much of a bother. At least I am protected now from my arteries getting clogged up from my understanding of it.

Do you take a statin @Leaf?
I have high cholesterol and triglycerides so my family doctor prescribed Lipitor and Vascepa prescription strength fish oil for high triglycerides.

Eating less processed carbs lowers cholesterol levels.
