High Cholesterol

Hi

My cholesterol is apparently too high to fix with exercise or diet.

Has anyone else been given tablets for it?

Mine was 7.2 which I was told is very high and likely genetic.

I am only 32.

Mine is high. I can’t take statins, have a bad reaction. Garlic pills helped some. You have to be careful with garlic as it can thin the blood so you can’t take it if you have a bleeding disorder or take aspirin therapy.

i had genetically high cholesterol and they gave me statins. The statins gave me leg pain.

I now take plant sterols 800mg, 3 times a day.

That does the trick and no side effects.

" Plant sterols are compounds that help block your body from absorbing cholesterol. While plant sterols help lower LDL cholesterol, they don’t appear to affect your levels of HDL cholesterol or triglycerides. One Canadian study concluded that plant sterols are the most effective natural treatments for high cholesterol."

Mine is high i need to sort it out sometime !!

I know im reviving an old thread but I have high cholesterol and I dont really want to take statins. I feel fine its just my cholesterol level is 7.33 at age 32. I am physically fit and exercise regularly. I dont have the best diet in the world but not the worst either.

Anything work for any of you?

maybe Ill try the plant sterols.

Try fiber supplements like Metamucil Fiber. Avoid eggs, fried food, high fat cheese, chips, etc

Yeah I’ve been on statins for years and it works for me. I’d rather do it without the pills but some things are easier managed with some help.

yeah just meeting with doc next week to discuss option

I have had high cholesterol and triglycerides ever since starting ap’s, I’ve done exercise and I’m on double restricted diets due to other medical conditions and they are still rising, just got put on gemfibrozil last month. I did metamucil for over a year and no change either.

Did they say what type of familial hypercholesterolemia you have? I think you misunderstood the doctors. -You Need diet and exercise to delay the complications IN Addition to the medications. Pills can only do so much with genetic cholesterol problems you need all three to improve longevity of life

25, I was given statins at 24. I discontinued as soon as I noticed violent thoughts.

Research on use of statins is mixed.

Dr knows best I guess.

I am not long for this world.

I get enough exercise at work now

Diet is something I struggle with. I eat fruit now, but I don’t think I get enough protein

Amisulpride might be working against me on this one

Since taking mine, my levels are now normal

hmm im not too keen on my drugs yet so it wouldnt be right for me to comment on that. I want to say its an AP ans thus interatcs with your hormones and all that ■■■■, and being an ap well its either that or insanity. Diet is very important because if you use more than you eat you can lower the levels. Thats great your getting adequate exercise, its hard for many of us particularly me. I do 2-3mile walks in the mornings during the week for the past three five months but havent been losing weight, at least I havent been gaining tho. My friends and family say its because I drink all the time but when I do I usually skip a meal cuz I ll drink like 3-4beers. I think its from my AP. So I guess we can say we have one thing in common, lifes dealt us bad cards, but at least were proactivly doing something about it trying to get healthy. ‘good on ya mate’

That’s working then, if I get reproscrived at any point. I won’t stop taking now.

I think you need to do something that raises your heart rate up. I do swimming

I smoke a cigar on my walk, does that count? lol

I don’t know if you can get plant sterols on the NHS, but if you do it could save you a tidy penny. I pay £13.02 a bottle for simply supplements 120 pills when I buy 3 of them. That is quite pricey, but at least they actually are plant sterols.

Please tell me if you can get it on the NHS instead when you go to the doctor. thanks

plus here is a link for your doctor before he tries to get on you on statins:
