Elevated cholestrol

Any success stories concerning fixing cholestrol?
My first course of action is to quit smoking at the moment. I feel motivated right now, but thats becuase ive just read how dangerously high my cholestrol levels are

I have to take statins which do the trick but it’s not ideal. Diet and exercise are important and giving up smoking is good for your health for sure.

My cholesterol has gotten better. A few months ago my dog reduced my cholesterol medication, so apparently, I’m making progress in this area.

My cholesterol levels have improved over the years but I’m on a statin, I also lost a lot of weight compared to a decade ago.
My Triglycerides are high though but they have improved a bit

In experience, does it ever drop back to normal levels after you quit smoking? Before i start taking statins that is.

Because atm. Im being told i dont need to take statins

I was never tested. Even when my doc noticed I had xanthelasma I was not tested. She said it was a sign of high cholesterol and risk of heart disease. And then did nothing. I don’t even know if my cholesterol dropped back to normal. Sometimes I wonder if people are tested more and all, in other countries.

Mine wasn’t super high, but enough to be a concern. I started prioritizing beans and almonds for a lot of my protein because they help reduce cholesterol but also replace the meat that while otherwise just be increasing it. And oatmeal or oat bran for breakfast or late night snacks when you just want something warm to make you feel better. Apple peels are especially good at lowering cholesterol, too. I also started eating more fish around the same time, but not sure if it’s good for cholesterol or not.

Either way, after about 6-8 months of that and losing about 10 pounds my cholesterol was back to normal except the triglycerides were still a bit high. So still working on that.

Fresh grapefruit. But you dont eat the whole, you eat the pulp. Remove the white stuff even the skin on the pulp with your teeth. Eat 3 whole for 2 weeks or a month. Get some exercise, clean house, 30 minutes 3x the week. Green tea or chamolie tea.

Don’t eat grapefruit. It’s a notorious no for anyone on medication as it affects how your body absorbs medications. It’s a commonly known thing and anyone on meds should avoid it totally!

Did cholesterol medication make you lose weight?

Not as far as I know, no.

I’m a little concerned now. Everyone is having their cholesterol tested. I had high cholesterol-symptoms. Maybe I should. Never really thought about it.

I am on lovastatin, keeps me right. can’t eat grapefruit though…it counters the med.

It wouldn’t hurt to get it tested. It’s just a simple blood test.

Yes, I surely will.

I had a bad diet and meds. I had xanthelasma, which is tiny yellow fat spots near your eyes, which is (often) a sign of very high cholesterol. AND I had deep vein thrombosis beginning of 2022 in response to haldol. Which can be related to high cholesterol. AND there is a huge amount of heart and vein disease and high cholesterol in my family. Dad is on meds for it. His dad died at my age from it (40-something). I really don’t know why they didnt test me when signalling the eye problem. Im slightly concerned now.
