Music- how important is it for you?

I sometimes think that I would have killed myself if music did not exist. My worst times in life were made more manageable by music. I still listen to music to keep my mind occupied, my mind is too powerful to be left to its own devices. It’s like a waking nightmare, but the soundtrack is ■■■■■■■ badass.

Music 50% to 75% of the time im awake. Gets old sometimes, but it’s always good to go back to. Think it could be better but I probably just needed to expand my horizons and listen to some different stuff. Couldn’t imagine life without it, but I guess I don’t really have to. It’s here it’s real.

Rock n roll man.

Music has been very important to me throughout my life and I have found to be key to my survival as someone diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder. I enjoy all types of music but I have found that jazz music has turned out to be the style of music that calms me the most when i am going through a break.

Check out this you tube video that demonstrates Schizophrenia as Sound vs. the Sound patterns of someone with a normal brain. Its weird because an SZ’s brain sounds like avante garde jazz to me which might explain my affinity for jazz music.

Music is important, I wanted to minor in music in college but did not know music theory or reading and was told to take lessons. I enjoy playing drumsett, and enjoy playing in bands, but have not played with anyone for ten years. I like all music from Classical, to country, rap, metal, jazz, and world music and so on.

It’s vital to me. Most of my waking time is spent with music of some sort on.

Music is my hiding place. Whenever the conflicts in the house get intense, I turn to music. It helps me and sends the message that I’m not going to let myself get caught up in other people’s problems.

I have a music downloading addiction. I hoard music files.

I hate it when music you don’t like your forced to listen to because your in the gym r something, it like hijacks your thoughts sucks.,

I love music - music nourishes the Soul.
I grew up in a different Generation than most of you guys, back then during the 70s and 80s music seemed more vibrant and had more meaning. I am sorry but the music of today, with some exceptions is pretty lame.
I was raised on the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, the Stones, Fleetwood Mac, even the popular stuff back then was of good quality.

I love music but it can sometimes affect my moods, where I can easily become manic or depressed, depending on which kind of music it is. I dont listen to it today as often as I did when I was in my teens and 20s - I guess this is because I am more stable mood wise - but yeah music is good medicine

I like music but it isn’t important to me. I go out of my way to distance myself. When I was young, certain songs were very triggering for me. To this day, music can have a very negative effect on me.

Me too. And old Aerosmith, Deep Purple, Montrose, and old Pink Floyd. It’s normal for every older generation to hate the current popular music style. Some parents HATED Frank Sinatra, Elvis, and yes, even the Beatles, and other sixties rock. It’s just like The Lion King: the circle of life goes on.

I like music I love smooth jazz for relaxation.

But if I always have it going it seems to throw a monkey wrench in my thought process so I feel I dont have control of my thoughts and thats not good.

I guess I have a control complex with my thoughts if Im not in absolute control I get anxious

Without music life would be a mistake.

Can definitely relate too all the posts in this thread.

Music helps me get through the day, especially on a long commute. Whenever my headphones break or I forget them at home, the trip feels like it takes forever. I find music to be a bit of a mental barometer, I know when I’m shuffling through the playlist and nothing sounds good, I’m not feeling well and in some trouble.

On the flipside, sometimes I can be in a terrible mood and think of a song that would be comforting at the moment, and it makes me feel better, kind of like audio self medicating.

I enjoy all kinds of music too, mainly instrumental underground Hip Hop though. But enjoy the Jazz, Soul, Rock and Blues music from which Hip Hop is sampled from. The 70’s and 80’s are my favorite eras for listening.

Music helps me when nothing else can. Music often speaks for me when I can’t. Can evoke emotions either make me feel better or help express them. Then you get into primal sounds (beats) that get me moving and motived. Venting of emotions like anger in a harmless way…The list goes on.

I vow I listen to music twenty four seven

Music is nice,i like to listen to music…
