We tend to lean on music for emotional support. It’s often the only thing we have.
I got a JBL Flip 4 for Xmas, I can’t wait to use it during long lonely days.
Merry Christmas

Don’t forget about food as well.
Yeah, I listen to music for most of my day. Hell, I’m listening to music right now.
Only difference is you can never indulge in too much music
The lyrics to Machine Head- Darkness Within puts what you are saying into lyrics pretty well. I like it when a totally amazing song is also written like poetry.
I’m almost 60 now. I rarely listen to music anymore. I think it’s my age. But when I was younger, under 50, I used to listen to music 24/7. Literally.
Yeah I don’t know if it’s my age or negative symptoms but I don’t listen to much music anymore either.
My parents (early 60s) are the same way.
Music has been my “thing” since I can remember. After psychosis, it’s been hard to get back into it. I’m really into hip hop but haven’t been able to listen to it as it evokes too much of an emotional response right now.
I’m glad music exists-- it’s good company.
Glad you’re enjoying your Christmas present @Nomad!
music is very important to me personally. I think a lot of the time people use music to block things out like family fighting, our demons, and to distract us in general. theres a lot of pain in the world.
Once when I was younger, I told a teacher, “Music sets my caged soul free, if only for a couple of minutes.” She looked at me and laughed. Probably because I was just a kid. She did say it was interesting I would say that and later admitted it was a profound statement. It’s funny to think back and have said that. The truth is that now that I have been diagnosed and have suffered in life because of a mental illness, I still find an escape in music.
I love listening to vinyl records. The idea of having to select a record, set the anti skate, adjust tone arm balance, and with great finesse set the needle onto a spinning surface and getting an awesome sound is a joyous experience. Analog rocks!
I got a Meat Loaf vinyl from Phil. I prefer all music over t.v.
Music was a bigger part of my life before I got sick. I’d have my headphones on all the time. I don’t listen quite as much as I used to, but I still listen about 1 hour out of every day. Unfortunately I have yet to find any good radio stations out here in California. I usually use Iheartradio to listen to DC101.
I download music from the videos on YouTube via a website and put the MP3 onto my player. Live on that thing usually, but lately I just watch tv all day. Or sleep if I can. Take sleep whenever I can get it.
Music is my first love! I’ve been singing to an audience since the age of 3. Since my MI DX, I only sing at home, both, because I have panic attacks, and, because, smoking took a toll on my voice. Also, my teeth are bad, and I’ve developed a lisp.
It was fun while it lasted, though! Better yet, I have no regrets.
I’m listening to music again. After the first psychosis I couldnt listen to it for some years.
Yup, i love the one noir jazz song i listen to lol. It stops me from thinking so hard and stops the voices for awhile. Maybe ill try some classical music soon.
Ive always got music playing in the background - sometimes i do turn it up a bit loud tho - and have to be mindful of the neighbours cos im in a block of flats, but nobodys moaned at me yet.
Not according to Mrs. Squirrel.
“Are you going to turn that off?”
