Motability car

hi all, my mum has just been assessed for PiP and i am hoping she will be entitled to enhanced mobility because of her RP if she does get it she said that i could acquire a motability car for her,

its good because over here in the uk we have the motability scheme where you can get a free car if you need one but it is paid for from your mobility benefit so my mum said she would do that for me,

the car would be primarily for her use and i would be driving her around but i can still use it for personal use as well.

so i have been trying to find a suitable car, i want it to be very eco friendly so hopefully a plug-in with a good range to it, i like the clasic dials behind the steering wheel, a proper handbrake and leather interior lol,

keeping my fingers crossed for her

i’ve also been researching the blue badge scheme and i am going to try and get one for myself so i can park without paying the meter, it costs me over £6 per day to park at the clubhouse and i go there a lot, it all adds up, there was a meeting and i brought it up at the meeting and it was a hot topic for discussion, so i printed out some things and i’ll take it in to show them,

there is or was a pilot scheme for the blue badge which entitled people with mental illnesses to get a blue badge but you would have to declare that you are a danger to yourself and others and that could be a problem.

If you want your car to be eco-friendly, electric might not be the way to go. It all depends on what kind of power plant supplies your house. If it is a coal or gas plant, you would actually be putting more greenhouse gasses into the air every time you plugged in. A hybrid would be more eco-friendly, because it would use its fuel more efficiently.

If your house is powered by nuclear, wind, solar, or another emissions-free plant, then go for electric.

Q5. Can someone else drive for me?

Your policy includes cover for up to two named drivers; these can be yourself, friends, family or carers. A third driver can also be added for an additional cost. All proposed drivers are subject to Motability’s policies on who can drive your car and must also meet our eligibility criteria regardless of whether they are added at application or during your lease.

Only drivers listed as permitted drivers on the Certificate of Motor Insurance are insured to drive your Motability car.

Remember, the car must be used by, or for the benefit of, the disabled person. This does not mean that the disabled person needs to be in the car for every journey. In practice, this means other named drivers in the household can use the car for shopping and other routine activities, as long as the disabled person will benefit.

In my country natural gas is very cheap and eco friendly.

thanks @firemonkey i have read the rules and i would qualify but what it does not say is that a named driver has to stay within 5 miles of the cared for individual and luckily i am just within that realm, 5 miles exactly.

heres what it says…

Who can drive for you
In order to protect the Scheme, there are a few rules surrounding who can drive your car.

Named drivers should live within five miles of the disabled customer’s address. We will, however, consider requests to include drivers outside of this range where this is essential to support the customer’s mobility needs.

If none of the named drivers live at the disabled customer’s address, or the disabled customer lives in a care home where a number of drivers have access to the car, we may consider fitting a location tracker. This is to ensure the customer is gaining direct benefit from the car. We will always speak to the customer to discuss this in advance of a tracker being fitted.

Drivers under 25 are restricted to cars with an ABI Insurance Group 16 or lower and with a power output of 120 brakehorse power (BHP) or less (this does not apply to Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles). It is therefore important to consider whether you will require a driver aged under 25 during your lease before you choose your car. For more information on which cars are suitable, speak to your dealer or look up the car details on the Car Search

Only one named driver under 21 is permitted – this could be the disabled customer, or another driver living at the same address.
We will only accept drivers who have a legally valid driving licence. Drivers with a non-UK driving licence will be subject to additional checks.

Proposed drivers with certain convictions, disqualifications or endorsements within the last five years will not be allowed. Speak to your dealer or RSA Motability (RSAM)Opens in new window for more information.

Only drivers named under the permitted drivers section of your Certificate of Motor Insurance are covered to drive your car.
