Antipsychotics were discovered in the 50’s. People who had Sz before then are the ones who really had it bad. No matter the country even now there are homeless people living on the street with Sz (even in countries with disability benefits). For example Elyn Saks discovered she had Sz in 1982 and still had better treatment than some people in this time and age though her experience with the initial enforcement of treatment was negative… overall she came out great with the support some people could only dream of. I just want to emphasize that in the Sz community we all have it bad and our progress or improvement is dependent on the support we get. Some require more support than others and it’s okay. But we would never be the ideal normal person no matter what we or anyone thinks. There’s no proven cure.
Actually, I tried Clozapine, and at 800 mgs it gave me a partial response only. I have tried Haldol on monotherapy, it has no effect on me. So, I totally agree with you, even if I were in the year 2000, I guess I wouldn’t be a responder to treatment. I am on Abilify/Vraylar, and though Abilify works with some other medicines as well, I don’t have sex drive on them, like Amisulpride/Risperidone. So, I can imagine how difficult treatment was before. People definitely have better luck now. In another 10 years, I think, with the advent of Cobenfy, it might become a lot more easier to manage this illness.
I apologise for mentioning how things have been for me.
Surely not. Your story matters, too.

Perhaps I tell the story too much
My becoming severely mentally ill is much closer in time to the pre medication era(approx 25years) than from my becoming SMI till now(just short of 50 years). Medication aside, responses re SMI were much closer to those of the1940s than to how SMI is responded to now.
A person now as I was then has a much better support system, especially in the early stages of having a severe metal illness. SMI,education,2e,neurodivergence - massive strides forward have been made. I cope as best I can, but some days it’s hard.
Sure. But what if your neighbor mows their lawn at 9 pm like ours does sometimes? Is that human nature too?
On a more serious note. I think its really not good to only think about comparing yourself to others who are doing better. Better to concentrate on working on improving yourself. Also doesnt hurt to consider that there are many who are doing WORSE than you.
I have been having a great deal of success in life, lately. Along with some setbacks. My advice is to concentrate on the successes and try to increase those occurrences. Try not to focus on the bad. I’m not asking you to ignore it. Just dont make it your focal point.
If your making progress, youre doing good.
Sounds more like inhuman nature.
Not at all. Just a reminder that you are welcome here, you belong here, and your participation is welcome here.

Thank you. That means a lot.
sorry to hear about your suffer
I didn’t mean to come across as though your own opinion is not wanted or valid. I actually wish there was a reply button for more than one post because I just wanted to reply a couple of comments all at once. From the posts I have seen of you, It seems you are a very intelligent person who has a genius IQ or something. So I thought maybe replying you would be intellectually stimulating at the least. I’m sorry for how I came across to you.
I don’t consider myself a genius. I’ve had other people say that I am.
No problem. I can be overly sensitive sometimes.
