With the pdoc permission. I did well without them. I think I can manage. Who knows if I even have bipolar. But then again is it pretty common to go 9 years without psychosis if it’s scz.
It’s been suggested to me before but I don’t really get manic. I do get mega depressed and I’ve been paranoid and psychotic. I am a depressed paranoid schizophrenic which seems to fit me best.
It’s worth a shot. Your doc, if they are any good, will have a feel about things. It really is an art with meds and people. It’s not easy.
Your on meds. You seem to respond well to medications. That is a good thing! I’ve been 20 years in September this year without psychosis but I’ve been on meds for all that time and I’ve had some pretty bad periods in between times.
It could be a good move but depends on your symptoms!
I’m very concerned about my diabetes that was caused by first Olanzapine then Abilify. So now I’m going cold turkey… No Abilify, no Metformin, no Lipitor and no Wellbutrin. Any experience with this or advice?
@Unclehenry Diabetes is another big thing but if it’s type 2 then it’s your diet. I take olanzapine and it doesn’t affect my sugar. Lipitor is totally different. It’s for your cholesterol and I take them too. It’s diet.
It’s unwise to stop meds a doctor gives you. Totally unwise. Perhaps look at your diet and move from there! I’m just a hack on the internet. You cannot find proper medical advice over a decent doctor! Get a good doctor for mental and physical and move from there!
Thanks @rogueone for the guidance. I went back on my meds.
Are you on any AP’s @anon80629714?
Abilify 10mg. …
I never did well with mood stabilizers…
UNTIL LITHIUM!
It keeps me level-headed and doesn’t have a bunch of other side effects.
Also, lithium might reduce your chances of developing Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, several scleroses… it’s a potent neuroprotective agent.
You might not need more than 300mg - 600mg (extended release is gentler on the body) (they used to prescribe MUCH higher doses, but a low dose can do wonders, for some)
(I take 1500mg ER a day, though… apparently my body excretes the lithium very efficiently, so this high dose was required to reach the 0.9 blood level, since the low-dose lithium didn’t work for me)
Not trying to push it! If you can do well without any mood stabilizer, that’s AWESOME.
The lithium just helps ME a lot, so was sharing
Keeps me from being violent, both in behavior AND in thought, against others AND against myself.
I used to be verbally and physically violent too. Both against myself and against others. And all the mood stabilizers they tried didn’t work. Now that I’m an old lady, I’ve mellowed out considerably and I’m no longer violent.
how is it going so far ish?
I’ve been on 5 and then 10 for 9 years. I don’t know if I know a difference anymore.
oh true, thats good. I would in general say just dont do anything sudden. Your brain is probably accustomed to them now. If you go off id probably say do it slowly, but obviously your doctor knows best
