Metformin weight loss

My family doctor wants to put me on metformin for my weight issue. Does anyone here take metformin although you are not diabetic? I’m scared.

I just started on it. Haven’t been on it long enough to say if it works.

■■■■. It runs on both sides of my family.

I take it for weight loss but I dont think I lost weight from it. I have been taking it since 2016-2017. I only started losing weight after reducing my calories intake. Sorry for discouraging you guys but thats my experience. I guess its good for preventing diabetes IF taken with food as its instructions say to be taken with food.

Metformin caused me to have Metabolic acidosis, which is serious.

I stopped taking it.

What dose were you taking? I take 2x500mg daily with food.

1000, 2x day 151515

My diabetes is in remission for lack of a better word. I just eat and drink what I’m supposed to.

My high blood pressure is gone, too.

Obesity was responsible for my development of both.

I guess there’s some hope. I plan on more exercise.

Roxanna, how much do you need to lose?

If that’s too personal, you don’t have to answer.

I am still obese but I brought my cholesterol and blood pressure to almost under normal levels (yes less than the minimum). Dr said I dont need cholesterol and bp meds anymore but he kept them in case I ate 4000 calories of junk food again.

All I did was cutting my calories in half, stop eating eggs and taking a fiber supplement. I also avoid too much fat especially saturated fat. I eat 5 calories/140g noodles. Was 295lb now 271lb but I dont seem to lose more weight as I cant exercise :frowning:

I found eating healthier and less calories much easier than exercising. I cant exercise at all, I stay in bed all day everyday and I am just 30y.o. I feel like 90 y.o.

Oh, my good and bad cholesterol are now normal, and the same with triglycerides.

I have gastroparesis. Eggs are for breakfast almost every day. I follow a strict diet. If I crave something for 2 + days, I indulge.

I used to be just shy of 300 pounds. Gastroparesis caused the weight loss. I throw up at least once every day, unfortunately. Ruined my teeth.

Fat is calorie dense, however it leaves you feeling satiated. Eating fat doesn’t mean it gets converted to fat. But high carbs almost always get stored as fat if one is sedentary.

But if you are reducing fat to lower ldl cholesterol then that’s fair.

I still eat fat but I try to limit the saturated and trans fat.

I take metformin for my pre diabetes/diabetes.
There is nothing to worry about @roxanna.

It’s a top notch med that usually has very little side effects.
