""A recent study carried out at Edinburgh University involved 27 individuals with bipolar depression who were put on a keto diet for eight weeks.
“A third of them did very well. Their mood was more stable, they were less impulsive, and their depression lifted,” said Smith. “[Finding] out why some responded and others did not will be one of the first undertakings for researchers at the new hub.”

This is interesting It might also be the reason why some with Schizophrenia dont respond to Ketogenic diet. And some can go off medication
Yeah, I find this topic fascinating. I think ultimately everyone is going to have a different level of response to this diet. I have been on it since 2018 but it has not put my illness into remission. However, It greatly improves both my positive and negative symptoms, helps me keep my weight in check and solved my stomach problems so I choose to continue with it. My problem with this diet is that if I cheat on it (I love carbs) then I hallucinate too much and my thinking goes wonky. I am trying to do this diet without meds and that is now something I don’t recommend. There are times when I feel like I need a backup AP.
I wonder if all I ate was vegetables and went on a full vegan diet and exercised for a quarter of the day could I get off of meds I highly doubt it and I can’t quit my heart meds for sure
Oh, I did the vegan diet back in the 1990’s. I loved the diet. In fact, I wish I could be a vegan. I can say that it did help my hallucinations and delusional thinking but I ended up anemic even with iron supplements. I also want to add that the vegan diet did nothing for my winter depression and I needed zanax to get through my days. I would say to try the vegan diet too see how you feel on it but I wouldn’t drop my meds and expect it to be a cure. Just my thoughts on all this diet stuff.
