I’ve seen mixed results from members here. @rogueone is getting incredible results and swears by it. @vinegar has also had good results. You may want to chat with them. I’ve had mixed results in that the weight loss was awesome, but it turned out that it was hard on my liver because I abused alcohol when I was younger and my bloodwork didn’t look so good towards the end. All that protein stressed my liver and I wasn’t getting the results I wanted for SZ. We’ve had a couple of members try keto while going off meds and it went badly for them.

It’s definitely worth giving it a try if you’re interested, but it’s good to check with your doctor first.

Hope this helps.

Hi @Mariamimi

I have been on the keto diet since 2018 and I feel really good on it. I use it mostly to keep my weight in check. It definitely keeps my mood stable.

I use the diet along with supplements, mild exercise and a low dose of an antipyschotic to treat my sz symptoms.

That being said, I have to agree with the moderators and say the diet hasn’t cured me. It just helps me keep my medication to a minimum level and that works for me.

The only downside to this diet is that it raised my cholesterol extremely high and my pcp wants me to lower my saturated fat content and raise my omega 3 fatty acids so lately I have been doing that through adding more fish and taking a fish oil supplement along with lowering my beef, bacon and butter in my diet. I will have my lipid levels checked again next year to see if that works.

Give the keto diet a try for 3 or 4 months and see how you feel on it. Let us know how it works for you. Just don’t drop your meds.

Good luck!

I was doing keto before and it worked for me but currently I’m doing a vegan diet.

I had good weight loss but it was expensive and luckily my mood is pretty stable regardless of diet

It’s a no brainer. It’s hard to do but to me it’s no different from going vegan.

It’s a different way of eating but…Stick with it 6 months and weight loss is great ( but I say you got to exercise ). After 6 months for me was the deal breaker. Better cognition and negatives and it’s been nuts ever since.

I’m not religious about it these days and have my days off because I like food but I stay primarily lo carb. It worthwhile exploring. Did I say after 6 months I also came down to lowest clinical doses of my psych meds and stayed there for nearly two years doing it! Maybe not for everyone but gawd. If it works it’s amazing and it has been so to me.

Thinking of trying medical ketogenic diet and going gluten free too. I’ve caused so much damage from trying all these meds that it’s worth the discomfort of sticking to a strict diet just to see if things get better. Good luck @Mariamimi If you’re trying it.

As an adjunct treatment it’s been totally mind blowingly amazing for me. Don’t stop the meds but you might find you can come down on them to better doses for sure. It’s just personal experience but it’s dumb but it works amazingly for me.

It’s nuts that I see heaps of people here complaining that the negatives are bothering them but honestly. Did the same shite for 20 years with exercise and diet so the gains from keto are measurable and it’s negs and all the subtle things escpeically things like motivation and simply finding pleasure.

Like it works for some. It really does and it’s a game changer. Wish I tried this 20 years ago because I’d be living and not hanging around sz.com everyday!

Take the meds as prescribed and yes. Try Keto. It’s something I think is beneficial to most here and I’d add gut biome as another adjunct treatment really helps too!

keto by itself does not cure sz no. Everyone would just do keto and everyone would be cured then.

That being said it can be a healthy part of a treatment plan especially if you have sensitivities to gluten etc. different diets work for different people so if it works for you or not only you can tell. There is absolutely 0 chance of it elevating 100% of your symptoms. but if it is the correct diet for your body type, which i have no idea if it is; if it made your mental health situation 5-10% better I believe thats possible. Which is still a huge win. Id say try it and if you like it then stay with it. IF it does work for you, that conbined with some other things liek therapy meds, community involvement, etc can drastically improve your situation.
