No, it doesn’t apply to me too. Although I have a mental illness, I would never kill someone.
I can’t really say much. I can just say that they have severe psychosis and it’s very sad. It’s due to their illness no doubt, it shows just how horrific schizophrenia can be when left untreated.
my question is if being a psycopath is a mental illness why are they put in prison and not the mental institution. what theese people do is an abomination however it is theyre illness that makes them do it now im just confusing myself.
This post seems to have hit a nerve. I don’t know what to say.
All I know about serial killers is what I have been exposed to in the media. They usually say this or that person had a problem at work or was known to have some sort of mental illness. People get too wrapped up in their fantasies and act them out. They maybe have had a bad childhood and seen too many movies or watched too much TV. When they’re convicted and tried, they are sent to prison for a while or get executed. People love this sort of thing and the news media make a circus out of it. People get the opportunity to compare themselves to the guy who did it and feel better about themselves. They hate people who identify with him. They can get quite worked up about something like this. They can’t believe or imagine that anyone could see things from the perpetrator’s POV. It can be dangerous to disagree with them. Even Congress and the president get a chance to do something about something like this, but they haven’t taken any action yet. The rest of the world frowns on our lack of any real concern. They can’t understand it. To them it doesn’t seem civilized.
SZs are usually gentle people who wouldn’t hurt a fly.
For many years I always thought I was strong enough and was close to God enough that he would protect me from ever harming another person.
That rule did not seem to apply to myself but I got over that.
But I had the worse relapse of my life almost 3 years ago that really scared me.
I think demonic possession really is involved with sz. I think that explains why
sick people to BAD things to others. And why Jesus and the apostles were given
the power to expel demons because that’s what they called sz way back then.
@PinCushion @Wave @ou812 @pansdisease @proof @SurprisedJ @karl @Advocate @mortimermouse Hey there. I read what you said about mass killers being victims as apposed to being just bad people. That was sort of the opinion I formed ever since I was diagnosed, because from what I remember I read a lot of stories about mass killers who were normal peaceful good people, and once schizophrenia took over them they were so delusional that they believed what the voices and hallucinations were telling them. That seems like something that can happen to anyone of us, and I was surprised that so many of the people on this post, had no sympathy because they of all people should understand. But if that is true, then doesn’t that mean that any one of us is at risk to commit a crime like that, especially those off of medication? If so that is very sad because the insanity defense does not always work, and you could very well be easily locked up for life, when you are actually a good person who just needs proper treatment.

Part of the problem is that its so hard to get good treatment in this country. Its much easier to get a gun, than get an appointment with a psychiatrist. The system has failed these people is my thinking.
They’re getting better at spotting potential rampage killers. At first, they weren’t so good. I remember reading about the guy who shot congresswoman Gaby Gifford. He was attending a college, and his behavior was so bizzare that people were sitting near the exits when he was in class, in case he might come in with a gun and start blasting. That is one case where they really should have taken proactive measures. Now, however, I’ve been seeing more stories on the news about rampage killing plots that have been thwarted.
In the case of serial killers, I’ve heard that most of them live to kill. They get intense satisfaction from it. That makes me think they are scum. I don’t think either rampage killers or serial killers ought to escape moral judgement for their actions, even if they are mentally ill.
but they are mentally ill deminished capacity for logical thought psychopaths do what they do cause they have a MENTAL ILLNESS that stops them having EMPATHY so they can do unspeakable things.
really its a health issue not a CRIMINAL one.
They are sane enough to get hold of multiple weapons, make bombs, stockpile ammunition, plan weeks ahead for what they are going to do, write 20 page manifestos or make videos of why they are doing what they are doing, and carry out these mass murders AND do all this without people knowing until it’s to late. Yet supposedly they are not sane enough to face the punishment they deserve.Something doesn’t add up.
I think we have to make a distinction between impaired rationality and cognitive impairment. A person with positive, paranoiac symptoms of schizophrenia and little cognitive impairment might well be able to do what you mention @77nick77.
If they were experiencing negative symptoms like lack of motivation, coupled with cognitive impairment, then it’s much less likely.
Well I did say it is tragic and I will say that I am a firm believer in legal insanity, I even give into delusions and hallucinations at times but have strong self control. I function highly as an honors student and I am very physically healthy, actually a bodybuilder, I am an experienced lifter and am pretty impressive looking if I might say- that is the surface! There is a sick and twisted brain in my head! It messes up! I doubt I will ever become violent like I did before I was diagnosed. I am an honors psychology student, I have very strong insight into my illness, it’s actually pretty remarkable and has played a huge role in my recovery.
I had a very shitty night last night, I couldnt sleep and finally went to sleep at 4am and felt like death until I took a test at around 2pm. I then took my workout supplement drink which perked me up a bit and then worked out and finished some studying for my next test on wednesday, arranged social plans for the weekend and am now logged on here. That is what happened on paper. Inside my mind, in my involuntary fantasy last night I was killing people, breaking everything and screaming. That is why I couldnt sleep. Like I said, I then took a psychology exam and finished before everyone else like I always do after I slept for several hours then functioned very highly in the gym as well.
I am trying to illustrate how involuntary our thoughts can be and how not everyone is well into a degree in psychology to help them function. People lose it and harm others. Schizophrenics are not that violent statistically, but they are about as violent as the average drunk if they arent on medication, which was the conclusion to a research presentation I gave last fall (and got an A) lol
I have a very strong ego, I know. It is just how I am and it works wonders for me.
I enjoy discussions like this, I can give an inside and outside opinion as a psych student and a nut.
These crimes are so heinous that the people who commit them need put down, like rabid dogs.
Every time I think I want to be straight forward about my Schizophrenia someone goes ahead and does a horrible thing and they (the media) attach the label of SZ to it and I realize I can never be up front about my illness with people.
I think that suffering from a psychopathic disorder is NOTHING like suffering from a psychotic disorder. It bothers me when people confuse the two conditions as they are worlds apart. Psychopaths are not like us, I do not believe they can be treated or cured, and that they should be locked away from society permanently because of the extreme danger they pose.
My 2 cents.

nick I respect your opinion however I think that planning to kill somebody would make you a danger to others and therefore be in need of sectioning and being detaianed under the mental health act these are SHOULDS NOT what generally happens.
I think they are dangerous and should be locked up.
Im not really into capital punishment, especially of the mentally ill. I do think life in prison for people who commit mass murder, that or life in a psych hospital, but not to get on their level and kill them. That is too similar to war.
I look at it like this, this is the bottom, you can’t get much worse than mass murder. There must be something monumentally wrong with a person if they commit mass murder. I don’t think these people can be repaired.
If anyone deserves the death penalty, it’s them.
