Hello? the mentally ill aren't dangerous

the worst they can do is kill themselves.

so all these mass shooters were on psychotropic meds, rare, very rare.

Yes but tell that to an average ignorant person.

Its not like a mentally ill person can’t kill someone, it just tends to be that they end up hurting themselves more then anyone else.

People it doesn’t help to assert that we can’t hurt people when, we’re just as liable to do bad things as anyone else.

We’re people, not a disease.

Yes your right. Right on the nose. It makes people think that the mentally ill are dangerous because most of those mass shooters had mental illness. The reality is most with mental illness would never do anything like that and on not violent

Well, actually the rate of violence in schizophrenics is roughly the same as the general population. People have tempers, schizophrenic or not. A little less. Yes, we are more likely to be victims.

It’s a shame but what mermaid1 said is true. Even some of my relatives are afraid I’ll explode someday and do something crazy. Just goes to show you how the stigma of suffering from a mental illness reaches even family members.

I’ve read that as well. It seems every time there’s a mass shooting they try to find something wrong with the shooter mentally. I’m sure most of them were deranged but darn it people sure do look at me funny when they find out I suffer from a mental illness.

I guess I’m lucky, my sisters aren’t afraid of me.

Thankfully my sisters aren’t either. Some cousins treat me waaaaay differently now though. Before it was like, ā€œHey what’s up!!?ā€ Now it’s like, ā€œHello.ā€ And then they move on.

That’s good. It helps a lot if those closest to you don’t fear you. Why don’t your cousins take a clue from your sisters and relax?

When I was first diagnosed with Schizophrenia, my husband at the mere mention of the word left me, taking our son with him. I have never had a violent bone in my body, not before nor after diagnosis. My sister and brother-in-law don’t fear me thankfully.

Well I have about 55 cousins. :slightly_smiling_face: Thankfully at least three still treat me the same.

Thank you for posting these facts @shutterbug . A difficult read for sure. This forum is a first line defence for us living with schizophrenia where help is always available. If anyone on this forum feels they need to talk because they might bring harm to themselves or to others please reach out and ask for guidance or help.

I’ve met a few radicals diagnosed with PBD before the age of 18. Really left a scar on em. I personally feel some of the ones I have met are on the spectrum of psychopathy Of varying extremes. They are emotionally manipulative and sadist. In my opinion, Those ones are dangerous.

Differences between Affect and Effect.
Facts and Truths.

There were people going around beating on homeless people with baseball bats. What a shitty thing to do. I saw on tv that these three skinheads killed a schizophrenic homeless man like that.

Dang. Must have missed that Specific thread @77nick77 and @crimby
But yes to both. not afraid but… haha i’ve had to call the cops on people I’ve almost fallen into a trap to.

People trying to manipulate a relationship after they ā€œlearnā€ of the illness. Kind-of ABSOLUTELY pathetic people. And you know they are aware of the fact that ā€œI AM not as likely to be believedā€
kinda freaky.
I Shall just say it. They are wanna be predators, in my realm… they are the belrog. Funny thing is do you think i’m worried about falling off the bridge or do I already know what happens here.

Off crack shot Readings. I feel like the first to letters I say to them are ā€œGGā€
