I just wanna say that melatonin is not a sleep aid. I get a little annoyed with my grandma who insists that it “helps her sleep”.

“Most people think melatonin is a natural sleeping pill. This couldn’t be more wrong; melatonin on its own won’t induce sleep, and is usually only effective in short-term applications. It’s more correct to think of melatonin as a ‘darkness’ signaler, that is, it tells the brain that it needs to prepare for a night time or winter cycle. If taken in the evening or when it’s dark, melatonin can speed up sleep preparation, and it can tell the body clock to shift its sleep cycle to an earlier time.”

Melatonin is helpful in gerd and acid reflux/heartburn. That’s what I read.

It gave me nightmares. I’d rather not sleep than go through that again.

It gives me nightmares so I take it in the morning for stomach issues.

Anything over 0.3mg causes decreased sleep time, nightmares and such issues. For this reason you should keep your dosage at around 0.3mg. Even as a big guy who weighs a lot I still only need to take such a low dosage to make sleep easier.

If you search Google you will find the study done by MIT researchers

Melatonin relaxes me in the daytime. At night it’s nightmares!

I mean it maybe made me a bit calmer at night? But I’ve definitely used better sleep aids. Plus the ones that are commercially available aren’t regulated by FDA so you often get really high doses which can make you groggy.
