So my Invega was increased to every 3 weeks. I take 234mg shot. My pdoc prescribed risperdone PRN just in case I have breakthrough symptoms. 2mg 3x a day if needed.
The nurse that gives me the shot said that 3x a day for the risperdone is too much. That they have some really psychotic people and they only take the pills 2x a day.
I was put on 3x a day back when in the hospital because my symptoms came back later in the day. I am feeling pretty inadequate now. As if either she thinks I am not needing what the doctor orders or that I am faking somehow.
I hate it when nurses contradict a doctor. This one has done it before. My last visit she said I can’t be on 2 APs and the doctor wouldn’t prescribe risperdone PRN but he had suggested it to me and then prescribed it.
Edit- I am only to take the PRN when and if my shot wears off. Pdoc said if I have to take it then take it, if not to save them in case I ever need them. He is super chill and a great guy.
I’ve had troubles with prescribing psych nurses before. I’m very grateful to have been able to see my mom’s pdoc when I turned 18. (he only sees adults)
Nurses are a very important job but they aren’t know it alls. Even doctors shouldnt be know it alls.
You aren’t faking. You know your mind and your body. You know what you need to do well and keep getting better. It’s great you can trust your doctor. Listen to him. Hoping the best for you!
I wouldn’t worry about what the nurse says. The doctor is the one who went to medical school. Sorry you’re in a funk right now. Hope things perk up for you soon.
