Maybe switching meds?

So I was on Latuda for 4 years but the sza was catching up to me and it stopped working. my doctor put me on invega which was working great until i had some serious side effects. what are they you may wonder? This may be tmi but the invega has caused me to lactate. me. a 21 year old who has never been pregnant and sure dont plan on it either. also shoutout to mothers/people who have had children because to me lactating is one of the most disgusting things my body has done and i cringe every time it happens so like wow idk how you do that without cringing but good for yall. yall are superheroes.

anyway my doctor was going to change me to clozapine but since i havent been having any psychotic symptoms shes hesitant to. i get it bc the lack of hallucinations and delusions has felt amazing but what doesnt feel amazing is my shirt spontaneously getting wet or pressure building up in my boobs if i dont squeeze it out. so like i guess we’re both torn. idk if theres any advice that even could be given, i just needed to rant i guess

I changed meds due to raised prolactin and it’s pretty common out there. I think there’s a med you can take that helps bring down the levels…someone more experienced with this than I will know. That changing meds can be hit or miss but sometimes it works out that it’s not so bad.

I hate the lactating but i’ve been so carefree without the symptoms that i dont want to change but i do and AH its so confusing!

Did your Dr say prolactin is bad? Mine said it doesn’t affect health and see no reason to change my meds. I requested a new Dr.

I guess prolactin is an issue for women but I have heard that some guys can lactate too due to high prolactin, it didn’t happen to me. Mine is 32.5 while max normal value is 17.4. I am on 6mg Risperdal.

I had very high prolactin (hyperprolactinemia) from Invega (Invega Sustenna), as well. It also killed my sex drive and I lost my ability to be aroused. I also had my mouth hanging open, often, and I looked high on street drugs. I felt like a zombie.

Have you tried Cabergoline? Or Bromocriptine? Those meds might help bring down your prolactin level.

Abilify is one of the drugs that HD the lowest prolactin levels

Aripiprazole is abilify … if you get the generic version of this medication it’s only $50 in Canada

I have tried neither of those. i don’t know what my prolactin level is but i just got blood work to check.

should i be talking to my psychiatrist or physical doctor about those meds?

You could bring it up to either/both. My pdoc sent a referral to an endocrinologist who specifically sees patients for high prolactin, among another things. :slightly_smiling_face:

My prolactine level is 28.it was 53.never got problem on it.i m male

This is due to increased prolactin probably. You should research adding a small dose of Abilify to invega.
