Marijuana Use Could Have Done Long-term Damage to My Brain

I think weed definitely contributed to me developing schizophrenia. I can see how it can easily flip on the sz gene, even in those that aren’t as susceptible to schizophrenia.

My brother smokes several times a day, every day, for the past 20 years and doesn’t have a hint of psychosis.

When I first started, about 16 years old, it made me feel happy and I would laugh my ass off, but that slowly transitioned into anxiety and paranoia, now I do not like the way I feel when I smoke it, haven’t touched it in years.

My meds have eliminated my positive symptoms, I don’t have too much problems with negative symptoms. I don’t feel I have brain damage from it in a cognitive/memory/intelligence sense but I’m open to the possibility it triggered my schizophrenia. I smoked it at least once a week for about 10 years. Mostly on weekends partying with friends.

Weed makes me psychotic even before my diagnosis.

It also made me violent. I made punched holes in walls.
