I just came back from the dr and I told him I still had sexual problems on Abilify 10mg (I initially was on 50mg invega sustenna my last dose was 95 days ago but switched to Abilify 10mg)
he said next time he would lower my Abilify dose below 10mg… I was just wondering if anyone here knows what exactly that means I thought you couldnt go lower then 10mg for psychosis but I could be wrong?
Actually, according to the package insert, 15 mg is the threshold for treating psychosis. I know of a few people who responded to as little as 5 mg though, so I have to wonder what’s going on. Just FYI, you can go down to 2 mg, but I doubt that’s enough to do anything for any malady.
The starting therapeutic dose for Risperdal is usually 2 mg - I will be going under the 2 mg mark as soon as my meds arrive via mail. I don’t think that looking at the dose matters so much, its what ever works for you
Everyone is different and even though the therapeutic average dose may 10-15 mg that doesn’t mean that someone won’t get the full benefits on a lower dose. It depends on how your body responds/uses it.
I am on 5mg,no prob for my psychosis though,10mg got me think slower and move slower…
What made your pdoc make the decision that you only needed 5mg abilify? If you don’t mind me asking?

I’m on 5 mg and doing well. Everyone is different. Best I can tell the decision was based on equivalent dosage from zyprexa which was on before. The adverage therapeutic dosage is just that… average which means some below and some above. I’d recommend you ask your pmd about your dosage as he has the qualifications and training to recommend vs just reading an insert.
I complained I was a little slow while I was on 10mg,and I asked for 5ng of abilify and the doctor prescribed 5mg for me,it’s been for 2 years already,I have good times and bad times,the doctor didn’t say I needed more during the 2 years,he just mentioned I needed a change in attitude…I sometimes wonder if I had depression instead of psychosis because after taking mirtazapine,my life was a lot better than with abilify alone,maybe I had depression and the depression causes psychosis,but well I just take what the psychiatrist told me to…I don’t think it would change in near future
The thing for me now is to lower stress,with lower stress,I will not get psychosis or depression,I think this works for lots of people with schizophrenia
5mg abilify is equivalent to 1mg risperdal.
Very interesting stuff Mindwhisperer - I will go up to 10 mg of Abilify, according to the charts that equals to 3 mg of Risperdal - this dose should be more than enough for me - we shall see
