Looking for help

I need some advice here. I’m really upset. I suffer with schizoaffective and for the last year I’ve been hearing voices, hearing echoes. I’ve tried everything. Sarcosine and d-serine made my positive symptoms worse. So did ginkgo. I tried lysine and was doing well on it for about 5 weeks but then it started to make me worse so I stopped it. I currently take fish oil, calcium magnesium, vit e and c, ltheanine between 600 and 800mg a day, zinc. Just started taurine 1gram a day but I am cautious about taking this as it interacts with lithium, which I take. What else can I do? I feel like I’m running out of options, all I want is to feel better. Any advice appreciated.

You didn’t say in your post, do you take an antipsychotic? If not, you need to make an appointment with a pdoc to get some help. The right med makes a huge difference.

Thanks for your reply. I do take an antipsychotic, 20mg of olanzapine a day, but I still have these breakthrough symptoms. I don’t know what else I can do

Talk to your pdoc about adding on a second AP, or changing to a new one. I still got breakthrough symptoms on 30 mg of Haldol, which is a huge dose. When I got changed to Zyprexa, my whole life turned around for the better. Maybe something new is going to work better for you. You have a bit of room to go up on the Zyprexa, but if you’re having breakthrough symptoms at 20 mg, it might be time to make a switch.

Good luck! Your pdoc will know best what to do.

Thanks Shmookitty, I’m seeing my pdoc next month so will talk to him then. Just wondering if there are any other supplements that can help? I’m starting acupuncture tomorrow also

I agree with @anon39736208. You need to ask for either an additional med or a different med. I don’t know if any supplements that treat positive symptoms.

Thanks Pianogal. I would be very nervous about switching to a new med as I am medication sensitive and had a very long psychosis last year when my pdoc tried lots of different meds on me. I couldn’t tolerate clozapine and olanzapine seemed to be the only one that worked. I might ask the doctor to increase the olanzapine

Good luck @cosmic01!

You can try amyloban

Hi Moonwalker, I tried Amyloban several times after seeing people on here talking about it, and it made my symptoms worse each time. I was so disappointed
