Looking after your living space

Anyone got any tips on how to keep on top of chores like cleaning the bathroom

I just got shown how bad mine is by my parents and I did not realise it was so bad.

Lately I have not been able to cope to well with looking after myself be it showering, cleaning my home or washing and ironing clothes

I really don’t have the motivation to do anything when I am at home and I don’t know why

I’m in a similar situation. I have a woman who cleans my house, but know with the Covid-19 restrictions she can’t come home. So now my house is a mess and I don’t have enough motivación to clean.

I thought about getting a cleaner.

Do you have to give them a set of keys or do they come when your at home?

The best advice i can give you, keep your place easy to clean.

When I was psychotic and couldn’t keep up on it, I got a cleaner in every 4 months or something to give it a proper clean every now and then. They don’t cost much, and if you don’t do it often it does not really add up to much either.

The biggest barrier for me to keep a place clean and tidy is executive functioning difficulties , i.e how to proceed with multi step tasks . To say I was living in ■■■■ heap in Essex would not be an exaggeration . That was coupled with less than good hygiene . My stepdaughter and granddaughter did do a cleaning blitz every 6 months or so when they visited .

My stepdaughter arranged help in that respect when I came to live near her. First through a company , and then when that was going to prove too costly, an individual that used to work for that company . It’s actually worked out cheaper doing it that way , while the cleaner was getting more from me than the company paid her. Unfortunately due to the virus situation, and her cleaning several other people’s places, my stepdaughter has said for her not to come.

Another factor was I was in a bigger place in Essex with more room to spread crap . Coming here I downsized to a 1 bedroom flat with less room to spread junk everywhere.

A good advice, like @anon53623539 said, is to keep you living space easy to tidy up. I have arranged my living space so that it takes 15 minuttes to clean it up.

Do one chore a day every day. And everyday put your dirty clothes in a hamper and put food away and do the dishes

@bluebutterfly, that’s a very good idea. You’re giving me ideas.

I try to tidy as I go.

doesn’t always work.

and I have this thing where I imagine someone pulling me out of bed when I find it hard to get out, a friendly spirit kinda, and it surprisingly helps!

@anon90843118 gave me the absolutely great idea of cutting down to bare essentials. Ie., I’m getting rid of absolutely everything I don’t need (clutter). This will make my place much easier to keep clean.

I’m also poor at cleaning house but I do laundry and dishes and cooking regular. Cleaning bathrooms for me involves 1) cleaning toilets when they look dirty and 2) cleaning basins only when my husband complains about his dirty basin.
