Local support groups for this?

I am a diagnosed schizophrenic (although not really), I have zero friends, and I’m reclusive. I recently got approved for ssdi but I was looking to see if there are support groups for my area so I could maybe meet others like me. If there is a site or any resources anyone could give, I’d appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Do you live in the US? If you’re near a major city there should be some NAMI support groups around. There are none by me, so I just stick to this site for my group therapy.

This site has some good sources too.

Yeah, I’m on the saarda.com site… looks like ohio, kentucky, and south caroline are the closest groups to me. I’m in tennessee… Thanks, I’ll check it out.

In addition to support groups (which may well be very good, but are occasionally not), I will offer the following (and hope that @SzAdmin chimes in with his stuff, as well):

Piles of research show that sz pts tend to get “better” when they…

  1. Get a copy of this book and read it and have their families read it, as well.

  2. Get properly diagnosed by a board-certified psychopharmacologist who specializes in the psychotic disorders. One can find them at…

  3. Work with that “psychiatrist” (or “p-doc”) to develop a medication formula that stabilizes their symptoms sufficiently so that they can tackle the psychotherapy that will disentangle their thinking.

  7. If you/she/he needs a professional intervention, tell me where you live, and I will get back to you with leads to those services.

That’s helpful info but the main cause as to why I am seeking group therapy with people with the same diagnosis as I is because of my feeling of lonliness due to the isolation. I hope to meet others that have been labelled the same by medical “professionals” because I disagree with the use of the diagnosis in general when it comes to possibly discrediting individuals and hopefully find some companionship. (If I believed in something else besides conspiracies or concealment, I probably wouldn’t be deemed schizophrenic. =P)
