Support groups

There used to be a support group in my town specifically for schizophrenics. I don’t think it’s still going. Was thinking about looking into something, anything similar. I need some kind of community. Was wondering if anyone here attended anything of the sort and what your experiences have been.

I wish there was something similar here where I live, but there isn’t. I think they can be hit/miss, having friends with sz is okay, they somewhat understand but at the same time they still don’t. I have a few friends with sz - none of whom I would say I have a durable friendship with; i rarely see them, much less actually talk about sz.

I think it may actually be harder to connect with other schizophrenics then it is to with people without it. Maybe it’s because of a mutually lowered inclination to engage? I’ve met other schizophrenics but never had a friendship with one. A group for people with severe anxiety would also be nice. Specifically social anxiety. I don’t know how easy it would be to get those kinds of people together though.

Even I love to have a group of like minded thinking about how to mitigate the daily issues and abnormal thinking that arise out of nowhere. But unfortunately here the like minded are less in number so hard to form a group.
