Living for no other reason than the four years of college

My college piano teacher said, “Most of the co-eds just want to find a husband, get married and raise a raft of children. But you’re different.” I already felt like a misfit and that didn’t help any. But it was true. When I was little, the dream mother put in my head was about going to college. As if it was a thing in itself. No life before and no life after. Really, it taught me a very limited idea of life.

Why are you trapped in your parents’ upbringing? I mean, you have the entire works of man at your fingertips. Try philosophy books!

I knew no other way until I experienced psychotherapy. It was the most attention I had ever gotten from anyone. So, I am obsessed with it. Even years later. The fact that it was a lousy doctor who was just in it to manipulate me into staying with him and collecting money seemed to go right over my head.
