Just some questions for anyone taking latuda. I like the idea of it because it seems that it wouldn’t cause weight gain or have sexual side effects that I get from invega.
I’m currently on Invega trenza and really like the convenience. I still hear voices but much muted by the invega
I’ll probably never switch, a switch freaks me out, but I am still curious about other medications.
I put on weight with Latuda but only about 50 pounds. I was really skinny on Geodon though and I am a tall guy so I can carry the weight and haven’t gained anymore.
I am about 6’1” and used to weigh 170. Now I am about 230.
It’s a good med but I still have to take Geodon too. Tried coming off of it but had problems. And stayed on 40 mg 2 x daily. Was taking 80 2 x daily.
I was quite sensitive to a variety of medications and Latuda seemed to be the right fit for me.
I think that I’ve lost weight on it and blame mostly myself and my decisions on not losing more weight.
I think that ultimately the medicine you “want” to like is kind of irrelevant to whether or not your body will actually put up with it.
I wanted to try vraylar or however its spelled but because its in you so long, and because I’ve had such strong reactions to other medications my specialist told me it was probably a bad idea to try it because if I do get akathesia (sp?) while on it, it will be in my system for quite a while.
Latuda or not isn’t my point. Talk to your professional advice. I’m doing great on it and have been with relatively small adjustments to keep it that way for a few years now.
Its also a rather expensive medication without extra help, although now there is a generic. I do not know how much savings that is.
I was on Latuda 80mg for a year. My negative and cognitive symptoms were better on it than now on Risperdal 6mg. But I had some positive symptons like paranoia on it. Dr increased to 120mg but the akathisia became so bad I couldn’t sleep at all. I then switched to risperdal 6mg, no positive symptoms on it.
Latuda worked well for me for about 18 months, then I got such bad restlessness I could no longer physically tolerate it, and ended up relapsed in hospital,
It was a nightmare for me due to the extreme anxiety it caused. It mimicked manic symptoms and caused extreme insomnia. Also my writing became very angry, opinionated, stupid and got me in big trouble.
All antipsychotics gain weight indefinitely. And that’s one of the main causes of schizophrenics dropping out of treatment. Because dopamine is in the pancreas too, which is related to cholesterol. It is already studied.
All antipsychotics affect dopamine.
