Latuda - I want to know the good, the bad and the ugly about it

Hi All, when I was in hospital recently, I was prescribed 80mg of Latuda (in conjunction with Fluanxol and Chlorpromazine). I’m always wary of new drugs prescribed, so I’m after fellow Latuda taker’s responses to this med— good and bad.

My pdoc wants me to take it at lunch and I’m finding by 3pm, I am desperate for a nap. I’m also restless a fair bit on it. The good side is it has taken my paranoia away and helps with the hallucinations somewhat.

I was doing fine on Geodon and Seroquel when my pdoc reccomended that I try Latuda. It seemed like when I was on Latuda I was angrier than usual. I’m not the type of person who expresses his anger, but I did brood a lot. I asked my pdoc to put me back on my old drugs, and he agreed. The anger could have come from me withdrawing from the Geodon and Seroquel. I have pretty well given up trying to find a designer drug that will make me a robust social butterfly. I just want something that controls my symptoms.

I’m with you @crimby about the social butterfly aspect, I just want something that will control my symptoms. I’ve given up on being social, I find I have nothing in common with people in general. I asked my pdoc about Geodon, but he is adamant we give Latuda a good go. Currently I’m on 80mg (and 60mg of Fluanxol and 100mg Chlorpromazine). I haven’t found me getting angrier, but just restless, like I am a nervous person on it and find it difficult to relax.

Latudas a good med of all the meds I’ve been on (and there have been a lot of them) I think it controls my symptoms quiet well and has side effects but they’re not as bad as many of the other aps. It takes a while to get used to but once you do it’s almost like not taking anything. I was on geodon on and off for many years and I didn’t have a great quality of life.
I still gained weight, still had sexual side effects, and it made my affect really flat. My doctor (when asked)
Said that “geodon is like spit”. I have been on latuda ever since which she swears is a good drug. One thing that ice noticed is it helps with depression. Big I miss a dose even for a day I get very depressed.
Hope this helps…

Was the worst for me me, but that could have been because it was the 1st AP I was on. I got angry too, I just thought I was because I couldn’t ever really relax while I was on it. Lots of Restlessness, Tremors, twitches, & nausea. Dirty drug, for me anyway.

geodon and clozapine was very dirty on me (sorry off topic)

If you experience disturbing emotions when you start Latuda it might be withdrawal from Geodon that is causing them. I think that is what happened with me.

I think it was the first drug I was put on in '15. It was good from what I remember, but there’s the issue of having to eat, I can’t tolerate that I eat when I wanna eat not when the meds dictate that I must.

I have gained no weight on it, no sexual side effects like risperdal.

It seemed to make my OCD worse. That has gotten better though thanks to either a higher dose of Latuda or the L-Theanine and ativan I take 3 times a day.

It makes me sleepy so I halved the pill. Symptoms are getting worse so I going to have to go back to 80. Going to the pdoc soon, probably when my dad goes.

I’ve been on latuda for a year now and the only side effect is that i have some jaw movements. I talk to myself sometimes. I am still highly functional though and sleep is good.

I feel like this med is not very strong for me. I take 80 mg and i have mild psychotic symtoms and highs and lows. Still better than any med i have taken.

I’ve been taking latuda at different doses for about 4 years. currently i’m on 160 mgs, the thing I don’t like about it is you have to consume 350 calories before you take it.

I think you should talk to the doc about this. Only they know what’s really best for you. I’d stay on it, at least for the time-being.
