My psychiatrist told me today that drinking lots of coffee, around 3-4 cups a day can affect the absorption of latuda and its effectiveness. However, I love coffee and I can’t live without it. What should I do?
i’ve never heard that, but i have been asked to drink less caffeine for my anxiety.
Is that a statement of fact? Or is that a belief?
I was on 60 mg of latuda (low dose) and drank copious amounts of coffee. The latuda still worked great.
Which means what exactly? Can you explain?
Don’t be dense. It rid me of psychosis. I stopped hearing voices and being delusional. For goodness sake I am typing on a phone. I don’t want to spell out every single detail. By the way, I am wearing blue jeans and a tshirt. I am somewhat religious. I like watermelon and sometimes dream about cats.
Thanks for that. Sums up my feelings and thoughts, AND made me laugh. I needed a laugh.
You are right notmoses. I suppose it’s just a strong belief that I have. I will just have to cut out the caffeine.
Don’t cut it all at once or you will get sick.
Latuda made me have an episode that was just about as bad as weed combined with skipping geodon. Caffeine makes the meds metabolize faster, I think. That means caffeine drinkers need more of it to have the same therapeutic effect. Same goes for caffeine and nicotine. Nicotine loaded people absorb caffeine twice as fast or some crazy ■■■■ and need like twice the caffeine as a non smoker to feel the same buzz.
I was an unmedicated drunk when I took honors drug and alcohol behavior, @notmoses can you verify what I just said? I dont even know if I’m remembering this correctly or if I have it backwards.
@anon95278303 Take note; de-titration from any psychoactive substance is a good idea.
You got just about all of it except the part where caffeine sets off a metabolic chain that also causes neuro-depressants / neuro-inhibitors (like anti-Ps) to be blocked from attaching to their intended receptor sites.
Ah, yeah that rings a bell. I think I remember something about caffeine being an agonist for lots of ■■■■ and then an adenosine antagonist. I’m rusty on the neuro stuff, like dont even have the areas of the brain down pat anymore. “Aygdala, hippocampus, frontal cortex, medulla, basal ganglia, nucleus accumbens, ventral tegmental area, hypothalamus, uh… wait I need to check my books…”
I try not to drink coffee until after breakfast… I take my Latuda with breakfast. after that then I can have coffee…
I love coffee.
Listen to your psychiatrist. Coffee and nicotine can affect the way some antipsychotics are metabolised. Not abilify, but certainly others.
You can easily cut down (maybe not quit) coffee. I’ve cut down to 1 cup in the morning. Even though I’m on abilify. It’s easy to cut down. Easier than you might think.
I don’t take Latuda, but I have the same, or worse, problem with coffee. Maybe you can cut back. Or maybe you could try a different drug.
