What about laundry and clean clothes? I would try and clean myself as best I could in public washrooms when I was homeless, but when you’re down to a single pair of undies… You’re just slapping the same bacteria on your body when you’re done washing. Doesn’t make much of a difference.
We live in a time where the classes are not so far apart in terms of their resources thanks to capitalism. Its mostly a flat landscape, I see a homeless person more as an outlier than an entire class. And you don’t take away anything from him by confronting him.
@shutterbug , my grandma and mom at the time were kind enough to let me do my laundry at their places.
Thanks to the gods I never had to sleep on the streets. I was technically homeless but I would go back and forth between my grandma’s apartment and my mom’s.
I was very low functioning and scared at the time. I wouldn’t wish that lifestyle on anyone.
When I was psychotic, I went through a period where I was afraid of tap water and such. I thought showers were poisoning me through my skin. I’m quite sure I stunk pretty bad at the time.
Your ankle funk is tolerable now.
[ checks level Listerine bottle - about six meals worth left ]
[ gives @Bowen’s ankle a beady-eyed stare from under couch ]
I’ve got a big problem, and is of technical nature…
My bathroom is very small (3 sq meters with washing machine, boiler, toilet seat, sync…) so it’s almost torture to go in and out bath tub…
I’m always afraid I’m gonna slip and fall…
But other than that, it never pass three days withought showering…
my stepfather who was not a great guy separated from my mom cause he became a severe alcoholic about 20years ago
he wrapped his car twice around trees and dwi’s
now he lives alone which is a long story but comes down to him at the bar everyday from open to close
he lost his car and license even went to jail for drinking while on probation
my sister who is his adopted daughter went to see him one day took him to the hospital cause he was sick
they put him in a special room cause they thought he had scavys
for almost a week the nurses scrubbed him
come to find out it was just dirt from not showering or even a face wash for months
i felt so bad for my sister she was so worried and ended up completely embarrassed
now he takes uber to the bar every day til closing and spends all his time at home watching porn
i have no sympathy for him after the way he feels no remorse for how his actions affect his family and friends
sorry for the book just a touchy subject to me
i know some cant help it but others are just to self centered and dont care about the people around them
sorry again im done
I shower once every six months whether I need to or not.
I was not referring to class, I was referring to age.
I have to play devil’s advocate here and defend him:
Its your choice how you spend your time, either you are on the computer a lot or you are in the bar like him or or or…
I don’t see it as selfish to spend your time how you want to spend your time.
From the sound of it, he has no responsibilities and he is showing it. Should he hide that?
@Halozination i get what you are saying
i just have personal issues with him and feel for my sister who has to take care of him
but you are right he is free to do as or as not what he does
im sorry for going off
I dislike people who are scent offensive to me. That can range from too much body spray to not enough body soap. Life generally goes better when you have fewer strangers in it.
Yes that happens where I live too sometimes.
Well I don’t like it it smells disgusting especially that strong piss smell.
It may be that they live on the roads and are so depressed they don’t have much motivation to shower. And then the matter of getting clean clothes is another thing.
I’m not here to judge their situation but still, the smell is not nice
In my country people are basically only homeless if they choose to be themselves. And even then there are places they can go to wash up and get free new clothes, like the salvation army and others.
From the looks of this guy I saw in particular…he didn’t look quite right. Probably has some form of mental disability. I doubt he is homeless though considering where he took the bus from which was a suburban neighbourhood. I’ve seen him take the bus from there on several occasions.
I don’t have anything against this guy, I’m thinking more along the lines that the system hasn’t picked up on him. Obviously he could use some help.
It’s hard to smell yourself if you smell bad. Probably because you’ve gotten used to it.
People lose sensitivity to their own smell.
Then they think “I can’t smell anything and nobody has mentioned it - guess I don’t have a smell”
I just quit smoking month ago…
I like to smell things, bc my sense of smell is coming back…
I don’t have nothing against any smell, only if it’s
artificial, bleach and such…
