Has anyone had any experience with the keto diet? Just been watching living well with schizophrenia and the girl who runs the channel is starting it and she is going to share her journey with it. She says her positives are managed but negatives and cogs are still there (although she doesnt seem to have alogia or speech problems) she is hoping the diet will help these symptoms. It will be interesting to follow.
The keto diet depletes the body of its sugar reserves, causing it to break down fat for energy.
So the thing I see the sugar reserves is in the way of burning fat, so I would say you burn more fat on keto. You can eat vegetables on it. Basically meat and vegetables, I don’t see you needing more than that. Not a bad diet, not family friendly though, you need lasagna around the family table…lol, going off track
I tried keto but I feel extremely miserable on it.
Especially when medicated.
I tried it. My issues always increase heavily in pms. With this diet my pms disappeared fully. Depressive and delusinal menstrual issues left me. It is just…I dislike eating meat and fat, it is hard sticking with this diet. And starting is difficult.
Didnt try it long enough.
Keto diets make my pasta maker cry.
I’m doing soft keto. I still order whatever I want when I eat out as there are rarely that many good options that are keto friendly. I would say you get used to it pretty quickly especially if you like eating chicken.
Problem is I still drink beer which ruins the diet as its full of carbs. Im thinking of trying to move onto white wine in the new year.
You can alternate weekdays with keyo and weekends with carbs. Im not sure about the science but I read it can be good to have a regular amount of carbs every once in a while. Im on such a doet, not sure if and how long im in ketosis but every weekend i have carbs
What about the mouse diet?
Or the wolf diet?
It works for some.
Exercise heaps. No loss.
Exercise heaps. No sugar and portions and such things. Minimal loss.
Keto. And I’m not the best at following it…radical weight loss and getting down to minimum doses on my psych meds.
Honestly. There’s something there which is why some do well on it but you can still gain doing it in my opinion but we are all different.
It’s hard work. You let go of a lot of food on keto. You reallly do but these days it’s lo- carb from here on out but it’s xmas and I’m living large and had too much sugar.
It’s a curious thing and there’s more research getting done on the metabolic outcomes from mental illness and as someone who’se lost 22 kgs ( 48.5lbs ) on subscribing to a keto lifestyle and going down to bottom of my psych meds I’d say it’s worth a go.
I always lose my mind before I lose weight. How is your energy with keto? To lose 40 lbs of fat would be a dream come true.
Yeah a pertinent question.
I’m back jogging 2k’s a day. I wouldn’t say it’s the same but I workout with weights daily…except rest days every 3 or so and walk average probably 13,500 steps.
It’s different and most days I eat more fat than protein and less than 50 grams of carbs. I don’t do more than 3 times the protein and carbs but it works for me. I can dial it in pretty well and maintain the weight loss etc.
Energy is good for what i do. I’m jogging 2 kms most days so I am working on more…goal is a 10 km run this summer so busy at it…It’s not like I’m without energy but sz makes everything hard so where do you draw the line?..If I push myself there’s energy in the tank…not any different from pre diet. Just everything at 53 is harder work…
I am going to research keto diet I never thought eating fat could make me lose body fat.
I have an appointment with my GP doctor in a couple weeks and will discuss my body fat issues
Yeah wise choice. Talk to doctor. I still reckon there’s something to this approach but unsure of the long term implications and I think you need to move. Exercise to get your body into ketosis so your body is using the fat for energy.
I think, for me, that is the most important thing. I exercise heaps and never lost much even going lo sugar/lo fat. Keto really melted off the weight but it is restrictive but you can still eat well and there’s evidence some do exceedingly well with the sz on it.
Do your research and talk to your doctor is a good move.
I briefly tried a keto-esque diet. I had a great micros, but when it came down to it, it all severely affected my IBS and my GERD. I end up eating a lot of carbs now, but I feel better. I think researching and talking to a doctor is a great way to go.
Good for you on the weight loss, @rogueone! That’s quite an accomplishment!
