Today My doctor prescribed Metformin Extended Release 500 mg to combat some rapid weight gain I have been experiencing and to help regulate or bring my insulin Level down which was too high. He said if I don’t do something now to control my weight or reduce my weight I could become Diabetic or I am headed down that road. So I am going to try Metformin and see if it helps me combat these two problems and he wants me to get blood work in three months to see if my weight has came down some and also my Insulin Level. He said it may or may not make me sick but I am going to give it a try as long as there are no lingering side effects wish me Luck.
Best of luck. I’m on Metformin too.
Good luck @psychward101!
Yes I’m also on Metformin
thanks I hope this works for me my mom was on it and made her sick and she couldn’t tolerate it
My old antipsychotic (Olanzapine) made me fat and I developed diabetes. I take 2000mg/day of Metformin. It never helped with my weight but it does help with my blood sugar levels.
All the best with it @psychward101!
same here I had to up my Abilify from 10mg to 15mg I have taken Abilify for years didn’t know there would be weight gain from it now since I have been on it for so long but apparently it has caused weight gain since I increased the dosage due to anxiety and paranoia the smaller dosage I didn’t experience as much weight gain instead I lost and maintained my weight having this schizoaffective disorder sucks wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy tired of the ups and downs like being on a roller coaster I am stable now hopefully I can get my weight down causing being fat sucks too cause it leads to other health problems. But I am doing as well as I can despite having problems with my insulin level. There’s always something going on it didn’t used to be that way but it is what it is,.
The same here, it didn’t decrease my weight, but was very good on my sugar levels… It’s a very good med, I was feeling even “lighter” on it, I hope this doesn’t sound as a Sci fi… it’s quite a safe med from what I know from the docs… They even think it prolongs life, but idk how. Maybe cause the sugar is a real killer, yeap.
Best of luck with it!!!
My pdoc told me that!
Yeah, I have also heard of non diabetics taking Metformin to extend their lifespan.
Yeah, my mother is a lot into all kind of illnesses and her Russian docs and the metformin is smth like a revolution to them now… they really claim it prolongs life… so my mom is right on something at least hah…
It’s a fasting-mimetic drug, so the benefits of it are similar, but not to the same extent. If you want your insulin low, then reduce carbs.
