I just found out 2 hours ago I am pregnant. I am on abilify maintena 400mg and my dr. refuses to give me my shot while pregnant. What are the safest antipsychotics to be on while pregnant? Maybe drop a success story or suggestions (not telling me to get a new doctor) I am not going to take my sleep aids or anti anxiety medications any more. I really need the abilify, last time I came off my antipsychotics I chased someone around with a knife until the help arrived. I can’t come off of my meds but I don’t want to hurt my baby either. Please help.

Congratulations on the pregnancy.
There are meds you can take while pregnant,
But I’m not sure which ones.
I had to go through my pregnancy with no medication.
However, I believe @LED took meds when she was having her daughter,
Lets ask her.

I was on haldol during my pregnancy and 2 years of breastfeeding. Worked great!

Congratulations on your pregnancy! And glad to have you here - welcome! Did your doctor give you a med suggestion when he/she told you he/she wouldn’t give you the shot?

Congratulations!!! I went through all five pregnancies while I was on medication. There are certain ones you can’t take. I was on Seroquel and Lamictal at the time. My pregnancies were all high risk because of the Lamictal which can cause birth defects. However, my high risk doctors said that I would have to be on a high dose of Lamictal for them to be concerned.
My last baby was born at 27 weeks due to the fact that I got HELLP and nothing to do with my mental medications. They told me to breast pump while she was in the NICU because they considered it okay. She is a very healthy four year old now and fine. It can be okay.
I would recommend you get a high risk doctor so they can monitor you. Try to be on the lowest doses you can be without have a psychotic episode. I had a psychotic breakdown the last week I was there due to post partem depression. They put me in the psych ward for a week and got me back on my feet. I guess my ultimate point I’ m trying to make is keep seeing a psychiatrist and see a high risk obgyn doctor. It will be okay.

I didn’t know you had so many kids! Were you working or on disability when you had them?
@FlyingPurplePeopleMeeter No my hubby is a teacher, and I am a stay at home mom. I did work while I was pregnant with my first but quit so I could be at home. We are a traditional family you could say. I’m very happy. Once they are grown I will be in a different stage of life and will go back to work.

Congrats! I’m sure your pdoc will have meds that you can take during pregnancy. I hope your pregnancy goes well. I loved being pregnant.
