I have a deep concern

I am 21 and I have intense baby fever! I plan on conceiving between the age 23-26. My concern is being on antipsychotics while being pregnant. My pdoc says being on them is fine in the past but what I just read said the complete opposite so I don’t trust his word on it. I’m leaning towards being off my medication during my entire pregnancy. I have been off of my medicine (haldol) for 4 months at a time before and was completely fine. What do you guys think about the situation. I want to have a healthy and safe pregnancy and baby.

I was unmedicated during my pregnancies. Had a lot of mood swings. Be sure to have an emergency plan in place and go back on your meds right after having the baby. I didn’t with my 3rd and had postpartum psychosis.

Haldol is one of the “safer” meds for pregnancy.

I don’t know if I’d recommend that or not. I understand you want a safe pregnancy but you have to think of your mental health to.
I’ve been without meds for months also but it’s very easy to get triggered and then next thing you know your in the hospital

You can always have someone else carry your baby.

I would say no! My pdoc told me not to even be on a low dose of an AD. He said they weren’t worth the risk and when you plan on getting pregnant it’s not about you anymore, but the welfare of the baby. He said people with mental illness really have a lot to think about before having a baby.
