Just experienced my first Earthquake!

There was a 4.9 magnitude earthquake that hit my state of New Jersey not far from my house!
Our whole house started to shake for like 2 minutes!
I was really scared!

Its effects could also be felt in NYC and Washington DC!

I’m afraid of the aftershocks that could occur and it’s also possible that a larger more damaging earthquake could hit us days later!

I’m really frightened for myself, my father and pets.

My cat bolted out of her room when the quake hit!

I lived in California years ago so I’ve been in a few. I know what you mean. They are very unsettling. It’s a good thing to happen though cos it stops there being a massive one.

We get them occasionally here in California. The big, deadly ones are rare. We get like 4’s 5’s and 6’s. I spend zero time worrying about a big earthquake happening because they happen so infrequently. And the San Andreas fault is not too far from me.

I kind of relate to the hippies in the 1970’s when a big earthquake was predicted that would send California sliding into the ocean. On the day on which the earthquake was supposed to occur a bunch of hippies went out to the San Andreas fault with crow bars and stuck them in the ground and tried to pry the land apart to help it fall into the ocean, lol.

It was very widespread!
Could be felt as far north as Maine!
And as far south as Virginia and Baltimore!

This could be the start of Armageddon!

The solar eclipse is in a couple of days too!

Earthquakes are scary. It feels wobbly and unnatural. Tornado is the worst of my experiences from mother nature.

We received a 4.0 aftershock at around 6pm
It was strong enough to rattle the house but not as strong as the initial quake

Hey saw this on the news! So scary.

I live in the middle of a continental plate so we don’t really get earthquakes…well I thought that till we had a minor shock. It’s crazy how many of them we really get and it was surprising how common they are even when your miles away from things like fault lines.

Glad your all ok! That would freak the heck out of me for sure.

That’s an interesting bit of information. The truth is often stranger than fiction.
