I live in an apartment block and a neighbour had an intruder she was screaming get off me and help. After smashing and lot of banging i rang police, i was nervous and on my own at home. I hope i did the right thing? I don’t usually get involved. The police said i did the right thing, what do you guys think?
I think you did the right thing. ![]()

Agreed with @GrayBear
It turned out to be her boyfriend and they were either drunk or drugs?
Im never ringing again its too problematic
I was worried for her safety thats only reason.
They don’t know i called ugh
You definitely did the right thing.
Thanks i appreciate you giving me support it was hard thing as when i called them i thought it was an intruder she lives alone and was screaming so
I feel an emotional wreck now after all that drama, took a Diazapam i might need 2 tonight actually, my body is rattled unsettled
You did the right thing.
What if the woman was being robbed? Or even worse?
You did the right thing. I called the police too in the last week or two myself. The only thing I worry about is retaliation for reporting them to the police.
The police have a tip line here that you can call to report things. I don’t use it because they can see where you live. I would rather email them and let them just have my name only. Their are people listening to you when you talk on the phone. It’s hard for me to have a private phone conversation.
Yes its 2.40am im worried
Retaliation from them is a possibility
ugh
You absolutely did the right thing!!! You took what information you had at the time and assessed that she was potentially in danger. You got her help. That’s a good thing!
We have called cops for random things over the years- a power line which got explodey and caught on fire, a neighbor creepily filming neighborhood children (ours among them; she hated kids), car accidents we witnessed, etc. Never heard someone cry for help, never heard shouting/fighting. When I was young, we lived in areas where we heard guns though I don’t know if we called especially since we didn’t always have a working phone.
I’d like to add that I have a distrust of police due to an issue in my youth. I was a victim but treated so, so horribly when I went downtown to answer questions and file the report. I was 14, and it was very traumatic. When we moved up here, I did a ridealong with the local cops in the hopes that it would help me to stop seeing them as the enemy. Most have been nice in this area, but I can’t shake that distrust. I would still call if I thought someone needed help, without hesitation.
Even if it was a hassle, you did something good. Domestic disputes, especially where liquor or drugs are concerned, can turn really bad really quickly. You don’t know what might have happened without the intervention
Sorry for unnecessary info. I just seem to be throwing it all over the forum tonight.
Your fine, i think your interesting and have had a colourful life.
My husband for first couple of hours he was annoyed at me for calling the police, hubby said his car might get vandalised ugh. But see what happens, i was on my own when it happened and i was shaking on the phone. Im mentally ill i cant be perfect. Hubby is ok now he’s settled and gone to bed
One time I was on a psychotic binge, and I was walking across the highway, and there were two policemen standing on the median. I was thinking that I would just walk past them because I had done nothing wrong. One of the policemen said, “Hey, George.” I turned and yelled, “Tom! My name is Tom!” They sprayed me with pepper spray, handcuffed me, slammed me face down on the ground, put their knees on the back of my head, and ground my face into the dirt after I had been pepper sprayed. It hurt like hell. They arrested me on a “disorderly conduct” charge. I had been behaving badly. I don’t think I got ptsd or anything, but I was kind of dazed for a couple of weeks.
@crimby aww im sorry to hear that you went through that, sounds very traumatic ugh
That is such a quandary. If you give into things like that the bad guys win, but cars are essential machinery. You have to depend on them.
It’s in the past now. I don’t worry about it too much. Next time I will take more care being arrested by the police. It’s amazing how if you’re non-combative they don’t mess with you. The best thing to do is go along with what the police say. If you feel like your rights have been violated and you want satisfaction wait until you are out of jail and get a lawyer.
He’s insured, what can i say? It was a freaky carry on and i did the best i could. Hubby will have to deal with it im not up to dealing with much
@crimby yep absolutely
Thanks for all your support guys
I guess I shouldn’t have mentioned it. I just wanted to let you know that I understand about retaliation for calling the police. Hopefully the police will protect your identity.
Your alright, everything is fine today looks like , im still a bit on edge but thats me being over nervous as usual
Have a good Sunday!
