My sleep issues. They’ve been getting progressively worse since I was 15 years old. It started out as random sleepy spells where I would be knocked out for two hours then be fine. Then it turned into me only being fully awake for about 2 hours a day. And now the sleepiness is so strong I have to fight, seriously fight to remain conscious. That incident driving the other day is still in my head and it still terrifies me. This is not sleepiness I can function with. I know I have a sleep disorder and I desperately need help.
Words can’t even describe how profoundly sleepy I am right now. It’s like I can’t even move I am so sleepy. I have to stay awake to give my rat her medicine. I wanted to write about what I’m experiencing right now but I’m too sleepy to use a pencil so I am typing because the phone helps keep me awake. I hate that doctor for sending me away with nothing. I am so scared. I don’t understand why it keeps getting worse.
you might want to get in touch with an MD doctor to see if you have sleep apnea? when I was really overweight I had sleep apnea…do you ever wake up gasping for air?
I am having the opposite I cant really sleep well because of withdrawals I was awake for like 20 hours until I finally got an hour of sleep but at the same times I am in pain so I have been in bed all day taking short like less than an hour naps,
usually if u are sleepy all day long I think a doc would prescribe a stimulant but prescription stimulants are really strong and can cause psychosis,
u should try drinking coffee tho it is a stimulant but it isn’t like amphetamines and u wont really get psychotic unless u drink like way too much coffee
When I felt like that I would drink so much coffee that it effect my stomach. My doctor wouldn’t give anything for it. The caffeine helped get through the day at work. I would come home and my wife would have coffee waiting for me so I could spend some time with her. Don’t know how it went away but my caffeine intake is normal now. And I’m doing fine.
I’ve done so much caffeine by this point in my life that it doesn’t affect me. I can take two 200 mg caffeine pills and go straight to sleep. I need the caffeine to feel normal. When I first started drinking coffee,. I got a real nice high from it early in the morning. By the evening I was often depressed. With so many drugs when you first start to take them you don’t have a tolerance for them built up, and they have a much stronger effect on you than when you’ve taken those drugs for a long time.
I’m not really overweight I’m only 5 lbs overweight. I was tested for sleep apnea and don’t have it. The doctor thought I had narcolepsy but wouldn’t diagnose me because my sleep results came back normal even when he said the test was flawed and that happens.
They didnt even measure me during any of my actual sleep spells!! That test didn’t measure anything!! And it was so unnatural to my true sleep pattern!
Can you afford to see a specialist? Is there some way to raise the money. This problem seems to me like it needs to be treated by some type of specialist - what type I don’t know - maybe a neurologist.
I have heard that sz sleep differently, even if sleeping a lot it varies from person to person but never usually sleeping deeply. Narcolepsy with its hypnogogic and hypnopompic hallucinations i used to fool myself into thinking with that i had it and ignoring all my waking symptoms until i developed full psychosis. All to say sz can masquerade as. Narcolepsy but the vice versa is probably true too
But this is me being hit with INTENSE waves of sleepiness. I’ll be totally fine then BAM it is a struggle to stay conscious. The doctor I saw said even seizures could cause that kind of thing. My brother has epilepsy so it runs in our genes. So who knows really. He was 99% certain I had narcolepsy.
Have you tried coffee that and a doctor is the only thing that I can think of right now. I hope things work out for you. Maybe you aren’t getting that good of sleep when you are sleeping… or this is a bad suggestion because it could scare you but what if you had a tumor on the gland that secretes melatonin or something?
Really the only thing that can help me here is medication but since so many people abuse/sell the meds prescribed for sleep disorders (students sell the stimulants as study aids, the sleep aid is a well known date rape drug) they make them incredibly difficult to actually get prescribed which is a huge hindrance to me considering I barely have time to go to the doctor to begin with and the million sleep studies they want cost over 9000 dollars despite being questionably accurate. (It is the best measure they have but still not very good)
Yes same with me. My friends affectionately call me “sleeping beauty”.
I was prescribed Effexor to help reduce the strength of my R.E.M. but I’ve been on it before for depression and didn’t like the side effects. I haven’t had good experiences with ssri’s so I’m not really interested in going back on one. And yes I’m a member on narcolepsy network’s forum too ahaha. Thank you though!
Yes there are some good herbal stuffs
American Ginseng, Siberian Ginseng, Korean Ginseng.*
My friend had sleep attacks - as somebody who was an alcoholic sleep (attacks) hit her.
It’s a symptom of pregnancy.
What are you eating?
I can assure you I am not pregnant I’m eating pretty decently for me, getting all the food groups lately. Geodon has actually made my eating a lot more constant because not getting akathisia is a strong motivator lol.
