I made it to church and it went mostly fine. There were a lot of people my age and it wasn’t crowded and there were friendly people just like I expected.
I did make an error at the end of the service.
The pastor had everybody stand up in a big circle and hold hands. That was fine and she said some words about how great holding hands is. She had me sold on it but I was holding hands with this women and she glanced at me so we went behind a pew and did it like rabbits for five minutes. No, no, no, that was all in my head, lol.
Actually all she did was just give me a friendly glance so I told her, “Yeah, we do this in AA all the time.” WTF? Why did I say that? Why didn’t I just keep my mouth shut? IDK. It’s not something you want to say to a stranger on your first visit to a new church.
I realized my faux pau immediately. She was a little taken aback but to her credit she tried to smile and act like it was no big deal but I wondered what she really thought. And later after the service was over she came up and talked to me a little so hopefully no damage was done.
