Tonight my tongue keeps moving against the back of my teeth. I can’t stop it. It keeps flexing and writhing. I have only been on antipsychotics for two years. I’m very scared, any suggestions on what I should do? I’m on abilify and just recently lowered the dose.
Talk to ur pdoc …it sound serious…
Talk to your doctor as soon as possible. If you treat Tardive Dyskania early I’ve heard it can be reversed.
Yes, it sounds like it could be TD. Talk to your doctor immediately. Usually, TD symptoms are only temporary, so try not to get scared. Are you on a typical or an atypical AP?
I’m on abilify 20mg, just recently lowered the dose to 15mg.
It’s good that you’re on an atypical. Your doctor could decrease the dose, switch to a different med or add a med for the tongue symptoms, so please call them.
My tongue isn’t much of an issue anymore, I just keep on sucking the corners of my mouth and clenching my jaw.
OK, but those could also be symptoms of TD. You really need to tell your doctor, because we don’t know if this is serious or not.
Alright, I think I can contact him on Monday. I think that’s when the clinic is open. My mom could probably judge whether or not something is wrong tomorrow. She’s a doctor too.
lately i put the tongue behind my teeth and push my teeth until my tongue hurts. I may have it too.w
Could be dystonia too, maybe? https://emedicine.medscape.com/article/814632-overview
“Dystonic reactions (ie, dyskinesias) are characterized by intermittent spasmodic or sustained involuntary contractions of muscles in the face, neck, trunk, pelvis, extremities, and even the larynx.”
It is not uncommon with APs.
I think whatever I’m having is pretty mild, I just don’t want to see it get worse. Don’t like 30% of those on atypicals get tardive? Why haven’t there been more complaints on this forum I wonder.
My psychiatry book says 20-40% get TD if you include the milder forms, but that only 4-5% get an irreversible TD.
Maybe because I’m a younger male that’s a reason to expect dystonia rather than TD. I’ve had akathisia already for a number of months, today was the first day I tried to treat it with cogentin. Maybe cogentin somehow caused it–the tongue movements.
Same here although my teeth have shifted and pushed out so I need Invisalign now
