Is there a dosing difference between Wellbutrin xl and Wellbutrin sr?

I’ve googled it and gotten mixed information or no information.

It’s all about how to dose vs is the dosing the same for both kinds.

Does anyone know?

I plan to ask the pharmacist when they open,

But I’m anxious to find out.

Aren’t they the same? Xl for extended release and sl for slow release? I was on Wellbutrin XL 150mg.

I really don’t know if they’re the same.

Well online all I see is that XL is Extended Release. Nothing on SR but I was just assuming SR stands for Slow Release. I am not sure.

The doses are usually broken up in the quick release, where the xl is all at once and releases slowly all day.

The doses are essentially the same per day, but not per pill, if that makes sense.

I know that part.

It’s the same medication,

The SR is slow release.

I need to know if the dosing is the same.

Okay, I was on 450mg of wellbutrin xl and now I’m being put on 75mg of wellbutrin sr, twice a day.

Is my dose being cut significantly?

It sounds like it, but you may actually be getting more medicine. Since it releases faster and will be absorbed faster. Sometimes the extended isn’t absorbed fully.

Thank you, I know that part.

I need to know if the dosing for the medications are the same.

Do you have any experience with it?

Yes I took 200mg sr twice a day. One in morning then 6 to 8 hrs later.

So i guess thats close to 450mg xl

Dosing is the same, XL is more convenient as it’s once a day. SR has shorter half-life so you have to take twice per day.

tl;dr: SR is dosed twice daily and XL is dosed once daily.

Both forms are largely equivalent in terms of potential benefit. The primary difference has to do how quickly the medicine is metabolized. The SR form is usually needed twice a day to maintain consistent benefit. The XL form lasts longer, with most people only needing to take it once a day. The XL form tends to have fewer side effects due to a more gradual release into the body. Do keep us posted with your pharmacist’s response. :+1:

Hey, I talked to the pharmacist.

She told me my prescription was not for Wellbutrin SR, but for Wellbutrin immediate release.

She said it’s normal to do that when switching.

I should be up to a dose that works soon.

What is the reason for switching from the XL?

It’s gross,

But I was passing the whole pills.

Undigested.

My pharmacy switched generics a couple months ago and I’ve been feeling bad since then.

It’s possible that I haven’t had any of the drug in the past little while.

Ah hope the new form works!
