Is sz degenerative?

I’m worse than ever.

That would depend upon who you ask…but no, I don’t think so.

In what ways are you worse?

More severe sz symptoms,
more severe depression etc

Some people get worse over time. Some better. I hope you’re in the second category.

I’m sorry to hear that your sz symptoms are more severe.
The depression is more than likely a separate issue from sz though. Are you on any medication for depression?

Worse until what?
Won’t I find peace?

I’m not a psychic. All you can do is work with your pdoc. Keep exercising. Keep yourself busy and don’t entertain the voices.

Maybe you could get a med change. Maybe an antidepressant. If one doesn’t work, maybe you could try another.

Positive symptoms do not generally get worse with age in sz Om. I doubt that you will get any worse as far as positive symptoms go. I hope that you can get better though. If you want my advice, I would say to try your best not to live in your delusions. Try to focus on the real things in your life. Constantly reinforcing your delusions can’t be helpful.

Sorry to hear that you’re doing bad with your sz and depression. If it is possible try to exercise. I’ve done so yesterday and the Day before yesterday, and I feel like I have more energy and feel a little happier.

I don’t think so. Maybe in certain cases.

It hasn’t been for me.

For cognition, no, not really.
But some show a slight decline over time. And your cognition can get a lot worse if your symptoms get worse.

Regarding symptoms that can really fluctuate a lot and some do get worse.

I wonder if more relapses means worse cognition. Is psychosis bad for the brain? Does it damage it?

What about negative symptoms?

I have heard various opinions on that. I really don’t think anyone knows for sure. Some say yes, some say no. I’d like someone to prove it one way or the other, until then I keep my mind open on the subject and try to avoid psychosis.

IIRC they remain largely the same but with a trend toward improvement. Previous studies indicated they got worse but this has been refuted.

I think the quality of studies indicating that repeated psychosis damages the brain is low. But I really don’t know that much about that specific subject. If I were to guess I’d say they generally don’t. Especially considering that cognitive deficits don’t get worse. But there are some age-related changes in the brain that are typical of sz. But changes / decreases in size don’t necessarily mean damage.

My father said around the 150 mark at first, when I asked him awhile ago. Then a more definite ‘147’. That was pre teen.

Just don’t ask me to do anything practical.
