No. Autism isn’t part of the schizophrenia spectrum and schizophrenia isn’t part of the autism spectrum.
I dislike this scale:
- level 1 requires some support
- level 2 requires substantial support
- level 3 requires very substantial support
I don’t require support. What am I, level 0? This is one of the reasons I still tell people I have Asperger’s. (I also like that it rhymes with “ass burger”, so there’s that as well.)
Even Elon Musk said last year he might have Asperger’s. Heck, he must be level minus 10.
My nephew displays Autistic like traits but he could very well have schizophrenia.
They share similar overlapping symptoms
Just so we’re clear, I’m not ever seeking a diagnosis from you. Or any other advice for that matter.
I’m waiting for him to build a car that doesn’t fall apart in cold weather before passing final judgement.

lmao i just told you the truth
I get the truth from my doctor, not you. You’re not someone anyone should actually take guidance from.
*sir level pulls up a chair with a bag of popcorn * ![]()
I’m in the process of getting tested for autism. My old case manager said there was no point in getting tested, as autism and sz share many overlapping symptoms.
But my new pdoc just informally diagnosed me with autism, so I’m waiting to see a specialist on the matter.
I picked up the diagnosis as an afterthought as an adult. I described some symptoms I had that didn’t fit with SZ and my psychiatrist had me some complete some surveys. Said that I showed strong signs of Asperger’s as a child and teen before SZ and also concurrently with SZ as an adult. Explains why I got pounded on so much from grades 5 - 8 before I learned to fight back well.
What was the testing process like? Did you have to wait awhile? I know we’re in different countries, so your testing procedure is different than it is here but we’ve called a few places around the city and they are backlogged for months. My pdocs office is putting in a referral for me.
This is what I was told.
In any case some support has never materialised at all.
Pretty disappointing and a waste of time doing the diagnosis in my opinion
I had to do questionnaires, my wife was interviewed, and I had to do cognitive type tests both with and without sensory bombardment. (They called it stimulus, I felt like I was under assault.)
I have learned not to expect support as resources are so limited. I have also learned that any support received will likely hinder more than help so I’m in a better place without it.
They referred me back to psychology here, but they did not have someone qualified to deal with ASD, so I got rejected
I do not even know what would be on the table to be honest.
Unless you’re severe enough to have serious behavioural problems and communication is non-existent - then I can see what might help.
I got sent to a life skills class where they were going to teach me how to poach an egg. Like, really? I can bake a perfect souffle with my eyes closed and you’re wasting my time with this? I knew how to cook, it was the disorganization caused by the SZ I needed help with. They had nothing for that.
I walked out and never went back.
I am getting irritated with mental health here, and it’s getting to a point where I just want my meds and be left alone
My new case manager just comes round here and I spill my issues but all she cares about is whether I am suicidal or not
Last time she was on about negative symptoms, but offered nothing in the way of help.
It frustrates me sometimes how big the gap is in the recommendations in academic lit. vs. reality.
My old pdoc was also irritated by the system, and he used to tell me to quote the law to people and the official guidelines of what people with certain MI should get from the state
It’s been suggested (by the media) that Bill Gates may also have Asperger syndrome, though nothing conclusive has been been publicly released about his medical history.
Sz negative symptoms like asociality/social isolation can seem a bit like autism but I think overall they’re different.
